Dolby Vision in 21.3 NG now uses source metadata by default in TV-led mode.
This can only be disabled by kernel param in /sys/module/amdolby_vision/parameters/dolby_vision_use_source_meta_levels.

There’s a new Kodi setting named “Override level 5 metadata to zero” which is enabled by default in TV-led mode.
It can be disabled to allow using source L5 meta but will not add zero L5 if it’s not present in source.
The reason it defaults to zero L5 is to avoid cropping GUI on some displays.

Overall these changes should make Dolby Vision output better and fix some playback bugs.

In Kodi 21.3 was fixed issue with cddb for faster playing of cd audio, but CE21NG and CE22NO have specific issue with original drm audio cd for set commands of using cdparanoia or libcdio (this is issue is at level of coreelec, not kodi). For faster cd audio with drm copy protection must be disable repairing of errors in case of audio cd.

I tried showed on this issue in this discussion before realising final ce 21.3:

@quietvoid It’s nice to see contributions from you. Thank you for helping to improve Dolby Vision support in CoreELEC.

Incredible work! Are there any settings, addons, skins, tools and so on that you use which are optimal for a DV setup besides having “TV-LED” as Dolby Vision Led mode and Override levle 5 metadata to zero disabled?

No, and I use the default level 5 zero override enabled.

@quietvoid Is there any plans in your future to try and get FEL working on 5.15?

Hello,

I am on NG 21.2 (that thread is closed) on a Kinhank G1 (unsupported I know). Things worked fine for months. In the last two weeks, I boot up the system (box powered from off to on), coreelec comes up, I select a file to watch from the media library, playback starts, then after about 3 to 9 minutes, the screen goes blank, audio stops. It doesn’t indicate it is buffering. If I go into the playback bar at the bottom, that comes up fine, I can navigate it. I can press stop, but menu navigation stops then, and I have to wait 1-2 minutes until I land back to the main screen of corelec. If I don’t press stop, after 1-2 minutes I land back to the main screen of coreelec anyhow. If I press reboot then, sometimes reboot happens instantly, sometimes the menu freezes and reboot happens after 1-2 minutes.

Yesterday this happened twice, so the file we watched was cut into 3 pieces.

Dmesg shows nothing interesting, the box responds to ssh commands just fine even when the menu is frozen for 1-2 minutes.

How to debug this?

I can’t see this settings anywhere in my cube 21.3 to LG DV TV. And if you want to watch a movie with L5 what do you do?

Maybe.

It’s under CoreELEC section and is only visible if Dolby Vision is set to TV-led.
If you want to keep source L5 metadata, simply disable it.

I don’t think that a nightly with this setting has been built yet.

@Portisch

Can you check the build server to see what happened? The last nightly for -ng is from Nov. 2.

@quietvoid

That would be so amazing!

The new option is available in the 21.3 release. CE-21 nightly got disabled because it’s Kodi Omega is finished.

Hi @Portisch Will it be available in nightlies soon?

Maybe

Wow @quietvoid This will be a game changer! Not only will Ugoos Amb+ be dethroned - with S928X be king- but it will be so much easier for CE to concentrate only on CE-NO, as CE-NG will be officially EOL & we can all migrate to CE-NO.

I’m so excited.

No, it will never.

You have to update to the latest release tar .

but isnt CE-NO does not have supoert for full FEL ??? so surely amb+ is still king as thats the only chipset that will do full FEL or am i missing something ??

After updating to 21.3 the the 4k video resolution 3800Ă—2160 does not zoom, it keeps as small screen

It seems that for FEL playback the player reads the two HEVC streams, combines them, attaches the RPU layer, and sends it to the TV. So, FEL playback is more dependent on having dual HEVC decoders than anything else. 4.9 implements supports for dual-decoding and combining, while 5.15 does not. A while ago, Portish tried enabling dual-decoding, but got a garbage image.

If my memory serves me right, the S928X does not have dual HEVC decoders, so FEL support would be impossible. The S905X4 and the S922X do.

It will never what? You’re quoting yourself, I don’t understand what you mean.
