Disappointed that the next version of Coreelec will not support my device which is has a S905X SOC. Feels a little like the Windows 10 debacle and means another perfectly usable computer heading for landfill

Yeah shame about losing S905X support, mines served me well for like 10 years! What is a good safe replacement with good amount of future support? Ideally something small, cheap and compact like the S905X TVBox’s were?

But I don’t know if it’s updated. There a bunch of new SoC after GXL:

I recently switched to Piers NO development builds on a GT-King and I do not regret it.

Can I just put the tar asset in .update and switch to alpha → beta → rc →release traject?

Thanks for developing CE!

Yes ,should be fine

I used the Generic image, left it compressed, placed in update folder

Reboot

Success from lastest Nightly 08/31 to Alpha 1

I Assume Tar file would yield same result

Its frustrating that yet another bit of perfectly good electronics is bound for the bin and being forced to buy something new. I have switched some of my families PCs to Linux from W10 because of the stupidity of W11.

Anyone got an idea as to WHY the 905X has been dropped [mine is more than powerful enough to run the stuff I have]

Rather than buy new I guess I will repurpose an older Intel/AMD laptop, probably running Mint or even LibreElec.

cheers

You do understand that CE is not a commercial project with unlimited resources? And even there devices eventually got no support.

It was written multiple times why some older devices are not supported anymore.

Those devices are not supported by newer kernels and it’s impossible for the Team to continue supporting every kernel. Just one question though, do you really need to update? What’s missing from CE21 that you really need now? You can keep your devices in CE21 for some years, probably.

I’m personally fine with support being dropped from older devices if necessary to keep the future releases clean with more features for the newer, faster devices etc. All you guys do an amazing job with CoreELEC, and its been my go to ever since the ELEC wars of many years ago.

Its also true that no-one really needs to replace their device straight away, it isnt going to instantly stop working  and will likely function for years to come, maybe with the exception of some addons or some future codec changes.

My friend is still running CoreELEC from about 6+ years ago, 9.0 or 9.2, cant remember exactly, but at the time the next update needed a full reinstall and he was like ‘its working fine, no need to update’ hes still using it now and its working fine.

As for my previous message, for me personally it has peaked my interest in finally upgrading to a faster device, although hopefully one thats a good budget option. Plus I’m despite what I said above about not needing to update, I am a sucker for updates so know I wont be able to not update it haha

Should power on/off by a switch connected to gpio pins work in 22? I have an N2+ that works with an NG emmc. If I swap to emmc with 22 on it, it doesn’t work. Both Emmc’s are using config.ini edits for the gpio pins.

My N2 would not boot the Piers alpha with the default core frequencies. I had to uncomment max_freq_cluster=‘0:1800,1:2208’ in config.ini and change it to max_freq_cluster=‘0:1800,1:1896’ which were the frequencies from Omega.

Please make a dmesg | paste and cat /proc/cpuinfo | paste.

I guess you have rev.a N2. NO uses same frequencies like NG but the voltage is a bit lower.

CoreELEC:~ # dmesg | paste

https://paste.coreelec.org/SleeperBreezy

CoreELEC:~ # cat /proc/cpuinfo | paste

https://paste.coreelec.org/RavesCrabby

any way to change timezone ?
Timezone country in System→ Coreelec is blank and Timezone only shows Europe/Andorra (no others to choose from).
I have Australia set in Interface-Regional

Please try these and report if one of it works.

Please comment your max_freq_cluster in config.ini again to disable it.
