My vinil records always start with some grainy sound. Garbage

@cpm
Interesting post thanks.
Just went through the problem titles mentioned here and found the EL info online. I think that’s the easiest method for me.
It looks like Gran Turismo and Men in Black are what you called padded 0 data - EL around 2000 kbps.
So possibly both types of MEL have problems and not just the “no” data - around 50-100 kbps.
Use Direct Cut to avoid grain
I have a number of these suspected problematic titles on owned UHD discs. At least Dune and the original Ghost in the Shell. Both are US releases. Perhaps they’d be useful to test to try a different source? I already remuxed using makemkv.
Only caveat is I only ordered my AM6B+ box yesterday from AliExpress, so it might be a couple of weeks LOL
EU release of Dune shows the same behaviour: Video already freezes at “Legendary” logo and starts playing again when the first sand is shown. It pauses around 1:40 and “restarts” Dolby Vision.
All this is only with lossless, with 8.1 conversion enabled it plays completely fine.
@Portisch I was able to make a 5 minute sample of Dune which reliably triggers this, if you (or anybody else) wants to investigate, drop me a message. It’s 2,2 GB still, but much better than 75 GB
Has anyone checked these files in Android? Seems to be a no issue there and may prove to be helpful.
kodi monsoons no issues
https://paste.coreelec.org/Mcrh8Q
I just try 20.4 ng-dv, the same issue with 20.3
use kodi emby add-on, am6b+ direct to my Sony x95ek hdmi4 with dolby vision setting, hdmi3 earc to my Sony ht-a50000 soundbar.
in CoreELEC setting,i use tv-led, dolly vision lossless
some movies purple, the codecinfo shows 12bit rgb, such as 2001.A.Space.Odyssey, Bullet.Train, p7-fel mkv
some movies no issues, the codecinfo shows 8bit rgb, such as wall-e,p7-fel mkv
some movies start ok, but after stop and resume goes 12bit rgb, both Mel or fel
Yep you are correct - will have to strike that theory off the list, checked some more MEL with padded 0 data and they are also having issues.
At this point can still though say the FEL I have played do not have the issue.
Replayed one of the padded MEL I thought was fine and it is not, probably did not have CE on lossless at the time. (Also went back on some FEL titles and did some random 10 minute sampling and all where ok on lossless - just in case!).
One more data point: I have some titles which are FEL but with a lower bit rate in the EL layer , for example: “Ip Man 3” - which is 666 kpbs (this I can confirm is real extra data, though most of the difference is in the black bars!) and have played though the first 30 minutes and saw no issues.
If anyone has a compare / diff for the git hub versions (FEL Working vs FEL not working) handy that would be useful! - would like to orientate myself on the changes in the code base that got us to this point; should be able to work this out myself from the commits but being a bit lazy!
I understand my issue with Ghost in the Shell, it’s P7 MEL film, which is why it was stuttering for me. Changing the setting from lossless fixed the issue.
20.4 looks like a good improvement - great stuff.
A quick check of some known issues I had that are fixed with this version (20.4):
12 Monkeys (no data MEL) - Issues from the start credits - now ok.
Spider-Man No Way Home (padded MEL) - Issue at Peter Parker reveal at start - now ok.
Lord of The Rings 1 Ex (padded MEL) - Issues at start when transition to map - now ok.
Titles that still have problems:
Dune (no data MEL) - Spice harvester scene at start.
Witness (no data MEL) - Starting Credits - transition from black screen credit to first shots.
Will be interesting to see PurplePlayer’s feedback for another personal UHD remux of Dune to help add to the case. (not withstanding the possibility there is more than one UHD encode available globally).
I see from the change log / compare some details around MEL will check those out for more insight.
That movie should be FEL according to this, with quite a high bitrate Ghost in the Shell • US Ultra HD Blu-ray vs. JP Ultra HD Blu-ray (caps-a-holic.com)
I guess you are watching that “proper” version, no idea why that release is mel.
Maybe he means not the 1995 one, but yeah 1995 is FEL + truehd atmos, I ve watched it last friday, worked great btw.
If someone just says “Ghost in the Shell” then you presume it is the Anime.
That Scarlett Johansson version was HDR only on the US disc.
Welcome to the AM6 CE Dolby Vision Fan Club, hope it arrives nice and quick.
So I finally got around to testing Hugo MEL with 20.3 and it was constantly pausing etc right from the start.
I then updated to 20.4 and tried again and it played perfectly.
I then tried Fifth Element and unfortunately it paused at the usual place.
Thanks for the update definitely some improvements.
Very odd, will need to change my Ghost in the Shell from that “Proper Hybrid” which is on several prominent places and has 8.1 instead of P7 FEL.
EDIT: I understand now. The USA UHD has worse audio than the JPN UHD, which has worse video than the GER UHD. So they converted the P7 FEL to 8.1 to bring it onto the GER UHD, hence the “hybrid” tag then included audio from JPN and named chapters/subs from USA.
I actually can’t find any vanilla remuxes of just the USA UHD since it’s been trumped at all the cabal trackers precisely due to the lesser video quality compared to the other disks.
I will keep this hybrid remux and just watch on the Zidoo for now since the bitrate is marginally better than the USA UHD.
Mel movies sometimes worked fine on 20.3 also.
May not be any indication of an improvement.
Did you test any .TS Dolby Vision FEL movies?
how do I update my CE? If I use the CE update menu within Kodi, does it automaticly update to the newer 20.4 Dolby Vision CE version or does it update to the standard branch and so I loose the dv ability?
