Dolby Vision for Minix U22X-J (Max) and Ugoos AM6+

I’m thinking of purchasing the Ugoos AMB6+ for the full DV Profile 7 support. Which websites and sellers do you recommend I should buy from?

I bought form Taobao, via local order service, ~150$

I saw someone on Aliexpress selling it for $148 USD but have no clue if they are trustworthy or not. Seeing if anyone has purchased it off Aliexpress from the same seller or have purchased it from somewhere else who are trustworthy.

fwiw - I got a couple from the below store for my use and to pass on to others, one last November and one this month.

sinbeda

Arrived quickly to me - but I am just over the boarder in HK.

Neither had any issues I can see - the outer box had the corners dented a little from posting as just placed in a basic bubble bag - but nothing to worry me.

FYI, I still see some Minix around also on aliexpress.

Will consider buying it from this seller unless anyone who has bought it from a cheaper seller on Aliexpress or somewhere else

Aren’t the Minix going for like $400?

Yeah getting harder to find - just check ali and ones I saw yesterday are all sold now (was thinking of picking one up)

HK looks like a few around still and very likely could pick one up in SZ, but imagine not that easy from abroad: https://www.price.com.hk/product.php?p=450331

Care to ship one to Texas?

parotec in UK have had some units of minix. you can ask them

i prefer minix unit above ugoos, because minix has 3 ports of usb3

Is it fine to restore a backup from my Odroid N2+ on 20.5 to Ugoos on 21.0 or should I start from scratch? The latest builds seem to work great, so I’d like to make it my daily driver.

I got all 3 of mine from AliExpress, seller Play TV. They packaged it well including hard plastic covers over the corners to protect from getting dented/crushed. About the lowest price I could find on that marketplace as well. AliExpress has a pretty good return policy that includes free return shipping (at least from this seller) if there’s a problem, such as the bum 4th box I had to send back.

It’s ok to restore a backup from an older version to newer (at least 20.5 to 21). The newer version will just migrate databases if necessary. The reverse is not quite so simple and would only work if you kept the old database file before migration, iirc.

Play TV was the other seller that I was looking at. Both Play TV and Sinbeda around the same price.

With the latest version does the dovi.ko file need to manually copied to the root folder or does it come with it automatically with CE?

Yes I got 2 from PLAY TV. All is well

You need to copy it over and will likely always need to. It’s because the vendor provided dovi kernel module is from a 32-bit armv7a firmware but amlogic-ng builds are 64-bit armv8. So you can’t use that one due to architecture mismatch. Similar to why you can’t use a 32-bit driver on 64-bit Windows.

I highly doubt we’ll ever see a 64-bit armv8 vendor provided Android firmware.

Stash it in Several places including /flash /storage /storage/.config

I use the last option in that list.

I’ve been having a similar problem for a while. Started with my N2, and now continues with the Ugoos - after switching inputs to CoreElec and going back to the TV, eArc doesn’t work. I need to either power cycle the TV, or change it’s audio output to something else and back to ARC.
I’ve tried playing with various CEC settings but wasn’t able to solve it.

There is a problem with playing Gemini Man, and the TV will have an image and a black screen for a while. AM6A+ NG21.0 LLDV mode. sample
EDIT:  Changing the HDMI cable solved my problem.

The reason I’m asking is because I remember reading in this thread: CoreELEC and Dolby Vision - Announcements - CoreELEC Forums that due to the switch from 32-bit to 64-bit the backups should not be restored and users should do a clean install. However, I’m not sure if it only applies to -ne or -ng as well? Does the fact that I would be migrating from the Odroid matter?

I’m not sure that’s a problem specific to corelec etc. as I see this from time to time with disney+/youtube on my LG webos TV.

Suspending Coreelec is my solution. But it doesn’t happen when I switch from CE, generally only if CE was on when I turn the tv on.
