The temptation is great. I have too much time on my hands, and love to tinker.
In was one of the forced updated. I saw the device with the LEDs blinking in every colour and realized something wasn’t right. It was the update.
But in my case I need tlitbto check CE functionalities so no harm done.

As I’ve stated, to this day new UHD discs with FEL are being published and Bluray players are being sold.
So…it might be the future but it most definitely is not the present.

Then buy and use such licenced Dolby Vision setup and watch FEL. For embedded it’s over as it’s not licensed.

The users just happy, and use that.

Who cares behind their own walls whether it is licensed or not. The important thing is that it works. Even if FEL is dropped in the future, that’s just the way it is. I would also be happy with MEL, the main thing is no quality like on Netflix and co.

Personally, no, I haven’t tested the CoreElec NG version with a box running Android TV 14.
They are talking about it in the official Homatics Telegram group.
And Frodo talked about it here since he is an alpha tester for the brand, I believe 
CoreElec doesn’t boot at all, so I don’t think it’s possible to create a log.
NG boot but no hw codec available, no dv/hdr etc.
NE not boot.
NO boot, but its not stable, not optimized to ATV14
p7 FEL not supported.

I have been asking the CoreELEC team technical questions in the CE-21-NG thread trying to figure out the root cause and hopefully get it working on NG with ATV14 (chances of success are low). I’m willing to spend my time and efforts on it.
The team is reluctant to answer. Maybe they received a notice letter from Dolby, otherwise I don’t understand the behavior.
The Team has a lot on its plate. No letter from anyone. I personally received a postcard from Santa Claus.

I was under the impression that no work will be done on NG trying to revive it for ATV 14.
Where does NG interact with the Android OS?
It looks like it doesn’t rely on the Android partition stuff.

This message should be stamped on the forehead of many users! The update disease for the mere sake of… updating is also something beyond my understanding. I think we’re dealing here with the FOMO syndrome (Fear Of Missing Out) where people think the update will bring something new and shiny to bring them joy. This almost never happens.
I wasn’t affected by the ATV14 update for one simple reason : My DuneHD BoxR is not allowed to access internet on its own. Yes I have a complex network setup with proxy, firewall and all the shebang which helps a lot but I can’t count how many times this saved my ass by preventing a “forced” update on something which was working perfectly well.

I on the other hand, can’t understand who would chose to NOT upgrade a working system. Life would be soooo boring if it were NOT for taking chances.
I love screwing things up so I can “fix” them. Better than mowing the lawn…
