Homatics Box R 4K Plus

Thanks, there is no issue, in the last nightly. :+1:

This is the correct one I guess.

There are some last_kmsg* in the zip but no playback included…

@Portisch Ok then, here is a ZIP file from the playing of BL_EL.mkv using the Dune Media app:

They use the same method like we do. They do not use the dual decoder method from 4.9 kernel.
No idea yet how they do it. They maybe use another kernel base where it’s already fixed?

Please boot CE and provide the dolby module version by ssh:
cat /sys/class/amdolby_vision/ko_info | paste

Please also your TV EDID by:
cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/rawedid | paste

You have a RGB 10bit compatible device and I can use your EDID for testing the kernel.

Their android using vlc as demuxer and OMX.amlogic.dolby-vision.dvhe.decoder.awesome2 decoder:

This “same resolution” issue should be fixed with tomorrow nightly.

So when GUI is already 4k 60hz and DV media is same it should force a mode switch to update colour subsampling and colour depth.

There is a bug remaining:
When watching DV and switch to non DV media without stop the DV first it still will use DV mode.
This result into strange colours. Just start and stop the DV media again and it’s fixed.

I removed the log link because I noticed some of the files contained my Gmail address. Let me know if you need more logs.

Also, I’m not sure how they do it, but according to Dune’s website they run their own virtualized container version of Linux inside their app somehow:

“Dune HD media center software, technically implemented as a concurrently running (in a special virtual container) Linux-based Dune HD OS, and easily accessible via a special app.”

So maybe they are using a different kernel altogether?

Anyway with Dune app, Saving private Ryan is flickering in the infamous first 2 minutes. So what is the advantage of using the Dune app over Coreelec?
And to my eyes the picture is clearer in Coreelec while it is slightly noisy in Dune app.

I think the only way to get that fixed is if it somehow become possible to use dual decoders so the Enhancement Layer can be fully processed.

There was a Kodi build for Android on the Kodi forum by a user called monsoon that could do this on certain devices like the Ugoos AM6+, but he disappeared and removed the builds after being asked to publish his source code.

@Portisch Is there a description somewhere of the differences between the various DV conversion options like 8.1, 8.4, Minimal EL?

I agree with you.
By the way I also happen to own the Ugoos AM6B+ with Monsoon’s Kodi build and it does not flickers with Saving private Ryan and the picture quality is far better than that of Dune app. IMHO

Two questions:

  1. What firmware are you using on your Ugoos AM6B+?
  2. Will you share Monsoon’s apk?

I use the latest official firmware 0.5.4 dual boot because I also use Coreelec (that unfortunately does not support DV on that device).
Pls pm me.

Sorry I can’t find the PM option (does that come with more activity?) Can’t find a forum faq either…

Try it with NOVA player in Android.
In BL_EL.mkv you should see both color flashing and the EL layer (movie start overlay)

I dont know, Are PM msgs disabled here?

Can’t find it anywhere. It’s OK.

Can you tell me if there is a noticable improvement when playing DV HDR profile 7 BL+FEL+RPU on the Ugoos vs. CoreELEC’s best DV mode on the Homatics Box R 4K Plu

Ya, you are right, Very bad,

Well not easy to tell. I like both but prefer Coreelec for reliability and easy of use, Ugoos still gives problems with DV, Even with Monsoon’s kodi build it happens that the movie does not start and you have to try again and again.

Thank you. That decides it for me. My next box will be a Homatics.
