Is it fully supported? Amlogic S905Y4

Hi i am planing to buy a new box.

Here are the specs:

  1. Is the newest coreelec fully supportted and will the remote control work by default?

  2. Which device tree do i need to choose?

For any help i will be thankfull.

There is no micro sd slot will it boot with usb fine?

You would use the generic s4_s905y4_2g.dtb, and CE may or may not work for the most part. Stuff like WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet is more iffy.

Although SEI is better than SDMC about not locking down their devices, some of SEI’s OTT devices are locked down and unable to boot CE. That’s another unknown.

You’d be better off getting a Homatic’s R Plus, Nokia 8010, Rocktek G2 or one of the other s905x4 boxes that are fully supported.

Similar specs to the Homatics R Box Lite 4K with s905y4.

So Coreelec 21 will may run on Amlogic S905Y4? I read that nokia 8010 has Problems to power on or off problems with the remote control.

Let me ask you guys one more thing. Will it be able to run Dualboot without loosing the original Os of this Box?

I see it has only 2x Usb 2.0 ports. Will it be snappy enough or what are you thinking?

Maybe i will give it one shot and test it , if it fails i will send it back.

You’re asking about a device that hasn’t yet been tested with CE. Nothing is known for certain. Yes the s905y4 is supported, but there could be other hardware compatibility issues that have to be fixed.

Some OTT providers implement security features that only allow Android to boot. You will have to test and see if Android+CE can both boot. My guess is that CE will probably boot and work ok.

The s905y4 is a budget SOC (4xA53 CPU cores) on the weaker end. It will be ok in CE because CE has low hardware requirements. It won’t be very smooth in Android. USB2 is adequate.

Amlogic SOC classes:
s905y4 - low performance
s905x4 - mid performance
s922x, s928x, A311D2 - high performance

This other thread has a little bit of information about another SE box that is very similar to the one you are looking at.

1.confirm bootloader is unlocked by u luck;
2.open developer option,maybe need pins;
3.open adb;
4.try existing dtb,or modify an existing dtb.

Where did you read that the bootloader is locked?

Thanks for your helpfull overview . I guess there will be remote control problems too.

this is the basic steps when trying boot on unsupported devices.
