Vim 4 has problems with nvme yet to be solved
We have contacted Khadas to add our public alpha (nightly) to oowow.
Can Khadas add VIM1S to oowow please?
Thanks
Where to discus bugs about the current build for VIM4? In this topic or will be created another?
You can write here. Btw: memory leak issue is already known.
Thanks very much for this VIM4 version. The Oowow installation work perfectly. It’s so convenient !
Test : We feel the potential ; overall we see that the operations are faster. It’s very responsive, but →

The framerate of the graphical interface, when scrolling, is 35% higher than the previous generation. I measure an average of 42 FPS for the Mali-G52 MP8, against 30 FPS for the Mali-G52 MP4. I like it ! But, more fluctuation with new generation (35 - 46 FPS) VS (28 - 33 FPS) → Drop X2. I may be wrong, but I have the impression that the graphics chip is not fully exploited ?

Some multi-channel audio tracks won’t play. (Picture without sound)
-
Jitter in movies (unstable framerate - 23.4 <> 24.4)
-
Sometimes the CEC command stops responding. Interface blocked or CEC bug ?
Conclusion : there really isn’t much missing so that we could get rid of our old box in favor of this one. Without problems 2 and 4, we could make it our main box. Enjoy.
Is automatic update activated ?
Audio passthru not working and trying to upload latest kodi logs fails.
dmesg
latest kodi crash log
It looks like the audio part for T7 (A311D2) SoC is not yet finished by Amlogic.
It uses a new driver HDMITX2.1 what do have issues with HBR audio passthrough.
It will transport to high frequencies what lead to no audio. Like 192kHz is transferred with 768kHz.
So there is no solution yet right now, you need to use multi channel PCM.
Good points ![]()
- Max video bit rate: 340 mbps !
- Fully functional AV1 codec playback up to 2160p
- The box manages to play 8K videos without jerking (but the display bug, it goes into windowed mode)
- Smoother interface than before : +35%
(42 fps) with HD cover (custom definition)
Vim 4 is the most efficient to date.
Once the last bugs have been eliminated, VIM 4 will, in my opinion, be the best box for CoreElec, the most efficient and the easiest to use thanks to Oowow. It will only lack the management of Dolby Vision. Strongly the Vim5.
Hello, I must have missed an episode, I’m not sure I understand what New Era is. And what are the differences with CoreElec 20 Nexus. ![]()
Does anyone have time to explain to me ?
First Project we had was called straight AML it was using their 3.14 kernel. Then with 4.9 kernel a lot of SoCs were EOL and we wanted to still support them. So AML-NG (Next Generation) was born. 3.14 was eventually EOL by us too and we stuck with NG builds. Now same story with 5.4 Kernel AML-NE (New Era)
Beautiful passive case for the vim4
Great Case. Would like it more with a CE Logo on it. Maybe some day.
Nice case. VIM4 needs a passive case. It reaches high temps. @Ray maybe we should design/launch CE cases.
Nice Case, but… Vim4 with Fan 250,- / + Aluminium Case ~40,- / + IR ~20,- / ~310,- for a Player? OMG. Even without the Case ~270,- All right I’m out. Staying with my old N2+ till EOL, (hoping for Kernel 5… or new Units in ~ 3 Years…)
It is a high-end set, a box that serves as a master standard, and turnkey for CoreElec. It’s a safe bet that in a year or two, this type of proposal will be made at a more reasonable price. Patience.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s the only interface I have on my TV, I’m ready to pay the price. It replaced all of my physical drives, which ultimately saves money.
Hello!
Could you please turn on the deinterlacing options for the videos as they are not currently available? I assume at some stage of development, that would be possible for you?
Are you able yet to install coreelec on the vim4 nve, anyone move from the n2 to vim4 and notice any performance diffrence
Mostly looking good (other than the audio issue already mentioned in this thread).
Is it planned/possible that the bridge/br_netfilter modules will be included in the default kernel, so that docker can function? Are there other modules that were included in previous kernels that are also excluded from this build currently?
Will be included in next build.
