LG C4 can't detect Dolby Vision from Ugoos AM6b+

Hi Everyone,

Inspired by the CoreELEC community, I pulled the trigger to invest both LG C4 TV and Ugoos AM6b+, and followed the wiki instruction to install coreelec. However, my LG couldn’t detect Dolby Vision when I played such video on Ugoos. Here are some backgrounds:

  1. CoreELEC 21.2-Omega is installed, together with these two files: dovi.ko and remote.conf and follow this link ([Guide] S922X-J (Ugoos AM6b+) CoreELEC installation and FAQs - #155 by anon62335196) to set up coreelec;
  2. As my main purpose is to play movie backup from attached external hard drive, I didn’t bother to install plex media server;
  3. On my TV, the “HDMI Deep Color” is set to “4K”;
  4. On Ugoos, under “Settings/System”, the “/Display/Resolution” tag contains no further option as “Color Space Settings”, only the list of resolutions; also the “CoreELEC” tag has no dolby vision option, only “Disable noise reduction”, “Tone map SDR to HDR”, and “Tone map HDR to SDR”;

Did I miss some critical settings? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, CE log files…

I’m sorry as a completely newbie. Can you be more specific what I should do? Thanks in advance.

Here is what I saw when sshed to the device if that helps:

OMG!

Use instructions from the first post in this topic, and check that you use proper/corect dovi.ko linked in the first post. Place it to the root folder of your flash device.
Connect your AM6B+ directly to your LG C4…

Thanks for the advices, here are more details:

  1. This hdmi cable (Amazon.com) is used to connect Ugoos directly to the TV;
  2. I followed this link to install coreelec ([Guide] S922X-J (Ugoos AM6b+) CoreELEC installation and FAQs);
  3. This command suggests that my LG does support DV;
    ============
    CoreELEC:~ # cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/dv_cap
    DolbyVision RX support list:
    VSVDB Version: V2
    2160p60hz: 1
    Support mode:
    DV_RGB_444_8BIT
    LL_YCbCr_422_12BIT
    IEEEOUI: 0x00d046
    EMP: 0
    VSVDB: eb0146d000480286825c6d8e
    ============
  4. Estuary is used as the default skin;
  5. The troubleshooting page says “ensure Android 7.1 (Nougat) or greater is installed”, mine shows 4.9, is that the reason? If so, how to upgrade?
  6. logfile is pasted to https://paste.coreelec.org/GeeksLoaned;

Let me know if further information is necessary. Thanks.

Sorry, one more thing:

When I sshed to ugoos, the current folder path is “/storage” and there is NO “dovi.ko” and “remote.conf” files in that directory, neither do they in the “/” directory. Is that the reason? Should I follow the instruction ([Guide] S922X-J (Ugoos AM6b+) CoreELEC installation and FAQs) and do it all over again?

Update: I found them under “/flash”, is this normal?

Thanks. Can you provide me the link of the “first post in this topic”?

Wrong dovi.ko used?

Aug 21 07:46:42.308765 CoreELEC dovi-loader[3567]: modinfo: ERROR: could not get modinfo from 'dovi': Exec format error
Aug 21 07:46:42.308765 CoreELEC dovi-loader[3567]: filename:       /flash/dovi.ko

It is the link you used. Download needed “dovi.ko” from that post, NOT any other. Your Android is later than 7.1. The number 4.9 refers to kernel version, and is OK.
Do you have any reference, anywhere mentioned Dolby Vision in CoreElec setings? Did yoy choose “Expert” (on botom in left pane) in Setings tab? If not, you cannot see all options…

Great advice! I must get confused about the instruction links. Now when I overwrite the dovi.ko, I can see the dv option under “Settings/System/CoreELEC”, I turn off the “Disable Dolby Vision support” and set “Dolby Vision Led mode” to “TV-Led”. However, under “Settings/System/Display/Resolution”, I still didn’t see any option about “Color Space Settings” etc, also I didn’t find “Dolby Vision” settings in “Display” tag to set “low latency”. By the way, I don’t have an icon named “Device Preference” under “Settings”.

And the issue persists, ie, my LG still didn’t detect the dolby vision content.

Here is the updated log: https://paste.coreelec.org/WhalesPills

And why you didn’t play something DV related before posting log above? To see if you actually use DV content.

Nice suggestion. When I played this file “DV_FEL_Test DT DL P7 CMV4.0 4000nits v3.mp4”, I did see my TV detect the dolby vision content, and the screen displayed “This device can decode FEL”, however, it also shows “This will work only on CMV2.9 hardware”, not the latest 4.0 version. I paused the video can submit the current log file as https://paste.coreelec.org/NoseyAnnex.

And still all the options I mentioned earlier are not present.

You enabled kodi expert settings?
If not please invest more time in reading forums and wiki!

In Kodi does no such option exist named “Color Space Settings”!
When you follow a guide from an unsupported CoreELEC fork you will need to go there and ask for help!

Yes, the options are all in expert settings, see screenshots

That’s OK, because mentioned options are not present in official CE 21.2_NG version. You see all options that are present in official release, so nothing is missing.

Thanks for the clarification. Are these options not important or not stable enough to be included in the official version?

These options are from a different build, and will not be included in official releases.
