I currently have a 4gb version with 32gb emmc, which I think is a bit overkill for coreelec. I need another SBC and I am thinking of getting a 2GB N2 + 8GB emmc for CE, use the ‘old’ one for the other project. Will I notice any change? I have all my data in a NAS so 8GB is more than enough as long as CE is kept a Just Enough OS
I believe 8GB is way more than you need if you have a data on NAS, but 8GB is the smallest one from HK store. I bet you it’s worth to purchase, it runs faster and reliable than uSD. If you like to have an Linux desktop, you also can install it along with CE in the same eMMC, obviously you would take a time to set up, but you can select CE or another one on booting.
I disagree about the 8G emmc. I think 16G is worth for CoreELEC and the price difference is not that big. Odroid N2 2G is more than enough for CoreELEC. In case you want to run some dockers you might want 4G.
I have a 2G with 8 GB emmc. With CE on the emmc there are nearly 6 GB unused. If there were 4GB i had bought it. So 8GB fits me enough. Cause everything else (Database, Poster, Fanart, etc) is on my Linux Server.
@ all what have seen the booting error with all LEDs permanent on.
Maybe I found a issue but it will needs some more testing.
Please use power off instead of suspend as the freeze only happening on resume from power off!
Please test if all is working as before, if not just return to the last nightly!
True. For CE, 8GB might be enough but as @Ray said there is a small price difference $2 between 8GB and 16GB, which I didn’t aware of. So now I would recommend purchasing 16GB which is double capacity and slightly faster, and maybe good if there is a chance to use future ODROID boards. But 4GB is different, it would be very close or more expensive than 8GB since lower marker demand, the price is not always proportional to capacity.
hi rosenrot, i have seen a couple of times all 4 of my usb tv tuners just stop working instantaneously, so im assuming this is the bug you are seeing right?. in any case im now following the issue on odroid forum, and will keep an eye out for any sort of fix (still reading thread at the mo).
Right, I would call it a bug as well. I saw the same issue for both of my n2 one on Ubuntu and one on Coreelec.
As a funny side node also of interest for @tobetter, it seems that single endpoints, or more specific there readout from the host side, drop out. For the TV tuner, the video stream continues but you can not control the tuner anymore. This is what I saw several times. All this issues are gone using the otg port.
Interesting…I don’t get why TV tuner does not work on USB host port while OTG can. Anyway, I finally got an ATSC tuner which works in KR since no DVB-T/S in here…so I will try to run TV tuner why it is. By the way, can you let me know your TV tuner?
each tuner is only a single tuner, and i want to record multiple shows at once. as to how they are connected to the n2, its via a powered (as i can imagine 4 bus powered could cause issues i would guess?) usb hub. the disconnection issue (if we can call it that) is quite rare for me actually, i have seen it a couple of times in around 2 months of usage, but when it does happen the only resolution is a reboot of the n2.
for me, its the xbox one tv tuner, they are dirt cheap and are both dvb-t and dvb-t2 capable.
@tobetter a quick question for you, if Ray is now including the u-boot update in the next nightly of CE do i also still need to update pettitboot?, as you rightly mentioned i am using petitboot.
edit - sorry its prob a dumb question, im still getting my head around u-boot, petitboot and interactions between different operating systems.
Even if CE build update the U-boot in the memory card, eMMC and uSD, you need to update Petitboot since Petitboot also have the U-boot in SPI flash memory as well. When Petitboot is involved to boot, the other U-bool will be ignored. So they is why I’ve mentioned in ODROID forum that custom U-boot feature won’t work any more once Petitboot manage the OS images for multiple booting.
I am a bit confused, would you be mind to take a photo how your TV tuners are connected on the host port? Also curious if the problem does not happen only when a TV tuner is connected. Since some user mentioned the power comsumption, I am planning to simulate the power if it could cause the problem. Each port can draw the current 1.5A so toally 6A with quick calculation. But in practical it won’t be…so I am going to test it from today.
I’m certain that it is not a power issue. I tried my TV tuner with and without external power supply with the same result. Also it only fails with the n2 but not with any other box I own.
I never saw a USB device losing a single endpoint by any non software issues. But this is only my opinion.
Different people has different setup, so the solution could be different…The best is to be resolved with single solution. I acknowledge USB port has an issue, some problem would be caused by the power and some would not. Since you have “Sundtek Ultima 8 SkyTV” and assuming not attached with any other USB devices. Based on the information, I am trying to find the root cause.
