adamg fixed the x88 king. He just reads original files and creates a new dtb file. Maybe he’s on vacation or something.
When it @anon88919003 fixed ? Also i found bug with audio-video output. Speakers from my 20y Hifi are very silent with normal set of volume and also as second issue is that dont going in same time with hdmi audio output. On device KI Pro was not this problem on coreelec (it means that is not possible if i will turn off of tv and listen music only on external speakers without changing of device audio output). In android was same issue with low volume on x88king, which i solved all topic low sounds from av with generally enabled of surrounds ac3. In coreelec are possibilities of enabling surrounds only for spdif and hdmi, but not for av. Maybe this issue means that is not active DAC in this state of implementation of coreelec on x88king (sounds are ok feom hdmi, but analog pcm is bad. I checked kodi audio state, and pcm was on 100% although was only very low).
So thx @TheCoolest have this device also VFD support through plugin openvfd and vfd.conf from him repo. In last nightly version of coreelec i see bug with Deep Colour (10-bit), because i have now only 8 bit on all hdr or fullhd content. Before from test rom from @TheCoolest had also the stream in Deep Colour (10-bit) on tis device with same TV from 2011 (TX-L37E30E). Edit: after sleeping and resume again i had everything on 10bit.
Sorry, but your posting is very confusing. Could you please explain if and how you got VFD to work on the X88?
Copy this file https://discourse.coreelec.org/uploads/short-url/e90mqrX9cq09vPx9s0DlLzddKx1.conf to .config and rename to vfd.conf And after restart of device is going. You must have installed before also plugin: openvfd
In this time have this device only three last issue: not 1gbit lan, not 3 zonen audio from analog (too low volume playing from audio output for missing of ADSP support and management under coreelec in kodi), and not activated 2pin connector for top led cover ( maybe it is useful also for connecting a fan or rtc battery ?).
Thanks a lot, the display is doing something now. However the time is 20:31 over here (24 hour clock) but the display is showing 12:03 and the lowest segment of the 1 is flashing about. Not completely right…
You must set your regional time and etc. In my case is going all fine as 24 hour mode. I have same time on kodi and vfd display. I dont have issue with segments (i am going on last nightly coreelec).
In addition to the above post, make sure that you have the advanced section in the OpenVFD addon disabled.

That is not a linux driver.
And no, it uses the driver from 4.9 kernel with a few customizations.
That did the trick, somehow it was enabled! 
Today i changed customized rom from vortex to last slimbox 5.1. Maybe him dtb will be help for CE. With this rom also going gigabit speed on lan only in android (not in CE). dtb.img.gz (50.6 KB)
the last stable version is slimbox 4.3 and the upgrade to ver 5.1 unfortunately has bugs because it is not compatible with x88 king.
I used longer time the rom from vortex, which was smoother. I thing that vortex rom is better than slimbox 4.3 (and also 5.1). In slimbox i have issue with in fast part of stream (freezing/tearing of image on 1 second), but maybe it is due to only 100mb speed or weak ac adapter 5v 2 a (10w) from manufacturer, when only cpu S922x need 7,5w of power. I wait on new adapter 5v 4 a (20w), and would be solution on these tearing and not going 1gbit lan. Next alternative solution would be for me the external 1gbit lan on usb3.
