Regarding the subtitles, which are being discussed here: We have the Dune 2 movie, where the German PGS subtitles are displayed directly over the hardcoded English ones.
With the AM9 Pro, the German subtitles now disappear slightly too early, so the English ones always flash briefly and remain readable.
This wasn’t the case with non CE22-NO Builds on AM6B Plus.
We’re probably only talking about milliseconds here.
Did you ever try on any other platform?

That’s strange, the color of the PGS subtitles hasn’t changed, meaning it hasn’t been mapped.
PGS is like a video frame, not OSD. Unrelated to this FBO HDR changes at all.
Amlogic have a subtitle hardware decoder, maybe this will work better.
CE doesn’t support subtitles well for seamless branch videos; many subtitles don’t show up and they definitely don’t follow the timeline.
MPC-BE is open source, so can’t we just take a look at the code?

CE’s support for external subtitles still can’t match Android Kodi. The subtitles are delayed, whereas normally, hard-coded subtitles should appear and disappear at the same time as soft subtitles.

For SDR BT.709 and SDR BT.2020 videos, a color lookup table (CLUT) is used to convert each pixel in the subtitle image from an 8-bit index value into 8-bit BT.709 Y0CbCr þalpha values. A BT.709 to BT.2020 color space conversion must be applied by the player to convert the BT.709 subtitle pixel values to BT.2020 before compositing with SDR BT.2020 10-bit video. For HDR BT.2020 video, a CLUT is used to convert each pixel in the subtitle from an 8-bit index value into 8-bit BT.2020 ST 2084 Y0CbCr þalpha 8-bit values. The 8-bit pixel values from the CLUT are multiplied by 4 before compositing with 10-bit video pixels.

If you don’t care about DV, PotPlayer and MPCBE are the best choices; Kodi and xxELEC will never figure out how to properly support all kinds of subtitles.

Yes, the HDR playback on pot and mpc is really good now, and they also handle subtitles well. Kodi has been around for decades but still can’t figure out subtitles, whereas pot even supports PGS subtitle mapping, something CE hasn’t been able to manage after years.
So which one you actually blame here? Kodi or CE?
If Kodi go there and blame them.
If CE then maybe you should ask yourself how imporrtant feature is this for CE devs. I would say around zero. Which means it is just not looked into. You do know this is free project done is spare time.
So the conclusion is this: if CE project satisfy your needs then use it. If not don’t cry here on forum because it will have zero effect. Or even worse…
