The other option to set up the tvheadend server is mecool M8S dvb S2X box to buy because of 41 USD. montaga is using the m88rs6060 tuner and supports dvbs2x.

I only gave information for dvb part of n2.
@Comma I assume what you actually mean is can it wake from suspend at a scheduled time to do a backup?
This should be possible, however itās not a feature that has been implemented at this time.

since today IĀ“m glad not to be an early adaptor. .
Amazon Video needs a certificated device now, Kodi Addon has stopped to run with more than 480p. Hardware can be as strong as a bull - no certificate - no HD or better. Maybe netflix will follow.
So for me the shield is atm the better solution, if Kodi, Amazon and Netflix should work in 4K.
N2 is the future if payed streaming content can be watched without issues.
I can not understand this behavior. It takes 5 min to install an addon with HD and 4K Video content running fine but not legal ( and that is what I do not want !). Watching content in HD I pay for every month is not possible. Weirdā¦ 
Netflix and Amazon is not everything. This is primarily about CoreElec.

Well - streaming Video content is the future.
If you have familiy and want to buy a new device - then you canĀ“t simply say, yeah - I like CE most but forget watching Netflix and Amazon. If this is a question of device based certificates now - then companies like Hardkernel/Odroid should do their homework.
This isnāt a problem of missing hardware certification.
The updated restrictions require the Kodi binary to be officially signed by widevineās VMP certificate.
But letās keep this widevine discussion in itās own thread, please.

What is the issue with using the official NF/Amazon app on your smart TV?
I really canāt quite understand peoples desires to want to run it from Kodi, with these new changes you can not say the situation is any worse because it was never any good to begin with.
And the CE alpha for N2? my N2 card is on the way hehehe

If you buy a new tv you will have YT, NF, AP in 4k. You donāt even need any box if you want streaming only.
Completely agree. I use AML devices purely for playback of locally stored content (and I have a lot !). If I want to watch Catchup TV, Netflix, Amazon etc, I use the smart tv as you say.
Decent 4k smart TVs now are relatively cheap as chips.

On a test build I donāt think so.
The thing is that the device will take less power when itās on than the shield in suspend (probably)
Back to your original question, it should be possible because uboot supports a wakup timer. Not sure if you need the RTC but we should be able to setup a time when the N2 wakes up, for instance 3am do the backup then go back to sleep. Looks doable.

It will be there. Our developers are euphoric to commit new changes that we didnāt find the time to start a stabilizing process.

About Amazon/Netflix. I partly agree about the apps. Netflix app is awesome and better than the Kodi ardon but it depends what you want. Amazon Prime Video app is just shit. Not only with the annoying ads for their original crap it is just badly designed. The Kodi Add-on is way better but the limitations in resolution is just as bad. For me personally I think own Amazon prime but I donāt watch any videos there because itās shit.
