The 3rd gen Cube supports NTFS natively. NTFS drives can be mounted with root on the 2nd gen Cube, since the NTFS driver is already present in the stock kernel.
oh excellent, wasnât aware of that then that makes the cube an excellent choice since you have the streaming services and certified also.
Do you recommend the 3rd gen cube or 2nd gen cube brand new from amazon? I will need to do some research
Depends what you need. From a hardware perspective the 3rd gen is better, but it canât boot CE. Lossless audio playback in FireOS is only supported on the 3rd gen. Thereâs only temp root for the 3rd gen, enough to set a custom launcher. However Amazon has run out of stock of the vulnerable units in many locations.
The 2nd gen can be unlocked (to enable CE booting), but itâs no longer in production and can only be found new on eBay. Regarding NTFS, any drive can be mounted with root, but itâs contents will only be visible to apps that have been granted root access. A magisk module like this would have to be created for the 2nd gen to make the drive visible to all apps.
Sorry I didnât mean to get too off topic.
thanks, still its interesting if other boxes donât have the hdmi signal drop, maybe @ jbaevea may give us a review if his 2nd gen cube fairs well.
I think ill wait a bit, see how I get one with the homatics box.
I have not got ant HDMI signal drop in the last couple weeks since I reloaded Ugoos and CE and set both to 12bit/422. I havenât got time in testing the cube 2nd gen yet. Will report back.
I havenât had time to but will try later, I took my AM6+ box apart and was right they stuck a nasty thick thermal pad between the cpu and other chipset, it felt like most of the heat transfer would have got blocked. I have re-pasted thermal padding and now my cpu temps dropped a lot like 20-30c.
I canât be 100% if the hdmi drop was due to this, but itâs never good to have a hot cpu or chipset, you can get throttling/cut offs or other hardware issues.
This maybe why the more the AM6+ is used over a few weeks or even a few months the hdmi signal drop issue lessens since the thermal pad wears in more or the hardware burns in better to lessen the issue.
I will try and post pictures on the AM6+ thread or separate thread.
Hi, I had similar issues with my ugoos AM6b and my onkyo nr7100 receiver. In my case the issue was some kind of incompatibility with HDMI 2.1.
It seems like a handshake issue where it just canât negotiate with the device accordingly, even if I forced 10 bit depth and 4.4.4 subsampling.
If you can, try with a HDMI 2.0!
With HDMI 2.0 (20gbps) I was able to play HDR 4k@24/30 at 4.4.4 without issues and have the UI at 1080p/120 at 4.4.4.
