The reason is regarding 3d, don’t want annoy you if i raise a thread.

Basically last ray firmware is working beautifully on my Gsking x. I was just wandering if it can be easily updated to CE 20/21 to be able to use latest addons.

Hi @Ray , sorry to bother you, is this the necessary Patches you were after for 3D mvc project? If not let me know and I can see if I can get it.
P.S. This is probably a rainy day project so please no rush, only when you have the time. TIA.

@xmlcom until I get a free time slot please make a collection of some different 3D MKV media.
Only short samples with max 1 min length is enough.
Can you also provide the CE image from Ray as I don’t have it anymore.

The idea is to add 3D support to CE-22, Amlogic-no.

That is amazing! Thank you very much @Portisch

Let me know if you need anything else, thank again.

Hello Portisch have you asked Ray if they can help with this as you are so busy with the other mainline projects. Thanks once again.

Please make a dmesg dump from your device at the 3D TV so I get a EDID.
Or by SSH: cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/rawedid

CoreELEC:~ # cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/rawedid

Hi buddy, hope you are well. Just checking in to see how you doing and if you need any help like testing etc please let us know, thanks.

More samples here if you need.

To be honest I don’t think we take 3D into CE.
Our last status about testing was 2020-7-7.
So almost 4 years ago.

All patches we have from OPEN SOURCE media center do not apply anymore for Kodi Omega.
And all tests showed it’s only working about 75%, so to less for the quality standard of CE.

Some of you might request the needed patches from OPEN SOURCE media center for newest status so we can check it again. The provided diff from their side is to old and outdated to. And this diff does include CE commits including of the remove from the origin and author as well. Some commits of the 3D part are also ripped of from LAV filter and ust changed the author. This is not how open source is working.

All about this the will to get this implement is very low and get lower as this technology is dead in home cinema. We more like to go with future technology like Dolby Vision

I can understand that CoreELEC might be busy with Dolby Vision, but I don’t think this format is a dead as you might think. Rather, it’s a technology that has moved from mainstream TVs to projectors. According to Wikipedia, most Amlogic chips, including the S904X4 and S922X, support 3D MVC meaning that support for 3D would affect the two most popular chipsets running CoreELEC. We’ve already seen numerous calls for support for 3D MVC on this forum.

I’m also not sure that the OPEN SOURCE media center route is the best route to follow because their result is extremely buggy and their methods leave much to be desired.

I have nothing personally invested in this debate, but I do think it’s a feature that users would appreciate.

Hi @Portisch , I fully understand as Amlogic 3D coding is a minefield and filled with errors. But can’t you at least port @Ray 9.2 3D img to CE 20/21 just so we can use updated addons, or is still not that simple?

Hi @Portisch i am in contact with Sam @ open media, what exactly do you need for the 3D so i can ask. He said all the source kernel code are in the link i gave you.

Yes, the source is there for the kernel. But no history and no commits. So we need to pull a diff by our own to find maybe what is need. And the kodi patches are even worse. It’s not just a copy paste, it’s reinvent everything

So what should i ask him for, to give to us?

Only patches in git format-patch format will help.

That’s difficult as he thinks it will hurt their profit(vero being one of few that do 3d well).
What if we can pull o.s.m.c img of a rpi3b+?

Not sure if this is any help, but I found three commits for SPMC where they enabled 3D support for AMLogic back in 2014 on a branch of Kodi for Android

A quick glance seems to indicate that SPMC coordinates fairly closely with CoreELEC
