AM8 does not start playback. And other SoC than S928X does really work?

Weird stuff. Was online all time, and now I see reboot and has only 2h uptime. I did now disable then enable again “Send invitation to CoreELEC developers” - maybe will help. :crossed_fingers: My apologies for the inconvenience. I will leave power on all the time and not touch anytime, more safe and easy for now!

Yes, it works outside of S928X.
Videos work with AM8 and SK1 Android Kodi.

You got 100 points as the first one who realized DV is broken!
It just took 1 month.

It was because a big refactor in the bitstream converter.
Should work soon again.

Videos are working with the CE version dated 12/28/2025

Not all DV will play after about 11/09. But will work again with new nightly.

Thanks @portisch and the CE team.

Thank you. With today’s update, SK1 now plays ISO-formatted movies, but AM8 reboots itself.
AM8 paste

Out of memory: Killed process 8091 (kodi.bin)

With what sample it do happen? And how long does it take?

Just an update: the problem stopped after I disabled the sleep mode on the CE, meaning that now I can set it to shut down or never shut down. The green screen problem happens after the CE goes into sleep mode at least once. Then it returns from sleep normally, but when I click to restart the CE, it goes back to the green screen.

In short, if you’re having green screen issues in CE NO, disable sleep mode.

Hi all,

Since 2 weeks or so, I am experiencing problems playing 1080p videos, they play like having framedrops, stuttering, and audio/video out of sync.

I waited some nightly updates just in case
 but still continues.

The problem is in a X96 Max S905X2 4/64, I have a Vontar X4 too and it’s OK on this.

But curiously, this only happens in 1080p, 4K runs smooth. Tried with online content and also with local media.

If you need something, please tell me and I’ll try to bring you the necessary.

Cheers!

Edit: with hw acceleration deactivated it plays a bit better, not perfect, but 4K it’s impossible without hw acceleration

I have the exact same device from same seller. He wasn’t able to provide any firmware and I did the mistake to try to flash Slimbox, then X96M200_YJ_20250516-1328 or X96_M200_20250428-1500 . I found out that firmware only works with S905X5M.

I found a firmware that works with S905A : X96_M200A_20250930-1616.img and I can upload it if needed. Do you know if it is possible to backup/dump your current firmware (X96M200_YJ_20250925-1529) ?

I will try to run CoreElec nightly build and see the results. I have soldered the UART headers.

And X96 company doesn’t provide firmware and some random firmware must be installed? Sure, no way for me.

Unfortunately found this after getting the device
Probably should have chosen other options :frowning:

Just trying on the same tvbox and the same “problematic” content on a usb drive that I have with NG, and plays fine.

Hello @petronel. :waving_hand: Welcome to the struggle!

For UART, I did measure ~1”s per bit on this device, so 921600 8N1 configuration.

For factory firmware, I have hope: last days multiple messages with Seller to explain what firmware is, provide examples with X96Mini website and other models, etc. Last message today they did ask an email to send something, I hope it is firmware download link. :crossed_fingers: X96 M200 / M300 not in list for now in X96Mini website is clearly a pain
I will update as soon as I have definitive news. :+1:

For now, I never did firmware dump. I only have full eMMC (64GB) image and can make the file available, if this is of help, please tell me. I can try real dump firmware with clear instructions and if possible with Linux?

For hardware, it is really not 100% clear to me if S905A is just rename for S905X5M, or something different. Amlogic website only list S905X5M, no S905A. On other hand, SoC engraving is S905A, and from OS it shows S7D / 71 and all all other parameters same as expected from S905X5M datasheet
 :person_shrugging:

Both names refer to the same chipset. The only difference is the model number printed on the chip.

When I use HDMI multi channel pcm output on passthrough 5.1 plays all channels.

Same works with no passthrough.

If I use just pcm output no rear channels. They play to the front L & R

I used these 2 files.
