Amlogic-no Discussion

Thanks for clarification. I have my testsysteem ready so if something needs to be tested/confirmed I can

For now i switch back to clean latest ng 21 nightly build but i still have problems after rescan of my nas that not all of my posters get pick up. I guess ill need to delete all of my .nfo’s and jpeg folders and recreate it from ground up

On my N2 when I was testing first -no versions I had to use any picture overlay to get rid of subtitle stutter. The one I used is “Subtitle offset” +/- bar at the top of the screen. With it displayed while playing the video, subtitles did not cause any picture stutter.
You can test this on newest -no versions if it also works for you.

Yes, TK new how much work was/is needed to be done to fix this bug, so they simply never admitted it exists.
I remember some 5-6 years ago that @wrxtasy at Kodi forum found out that using Kodi “Dirty Regions” in advancedsettings.xml fixed subtitle stutter for S912 SoC.
Also remember that @boot2k3, at that time, made a “devel.tar” version that fixed sub stutter without need for advancedsettings.xml line.
Unfortunately this “dirty region fix” does not work on S922x…

Subtitles & Overlay is horror currently in Kodi code.
Subtitles are add by LibAss with PTS start/stop.
Then one unique overlay with no PTS is added so the render do know it’s something to do. Then the stutter happen because it render a empty frame.
This is why the stutter is gone when actually there is some work to do…

But as already written this is a very old implementation. so it must be reworked from basic.

Shouldn’t TK chip in on this or will they just sit content on their fat ass and wait for you to do all heavy work?

TK did rewrite the subtitle renderer in 2021 for Kodi 20 according to this post:

https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=364572

It may still not work correctly, but it’s not from 2011

I hope subtitles are fixed with new nightly 20250115, for CE-22 and CE-21.
