Amlogic-no Discussion

Those TBS driver updates are useless for CE. Drivers for some TBS boxes could be added to CE kernel by cherry picking from TBS repo. So far we only added 5520SE and 5580. Some other boxes may be added in the future.

5520SE and 5530 are very similar, we want to buy 5530 for him. 5520SE is no longer sold.

Updated Petitboot per your instructions but NO will not boot.

So there’s no way to have any edid overrides in NO?

Don’t know what went wrong for you, but I first installed -no version on a 32G uSD card with just uSD card inserted in N2. When the installation was finished, I put the new " spiboot-20231218.img" in the root of this new uSD card, renamed it to ā€œspiboot.imgā€. Then moved the SPI switch to SPI position, inserted uSD card and powered on my N2. The Petitboot started and finished the update to new version.
When update was finished, I switched of the power, inserted my eMMC (with Android) and my USB stick (with CE 21_beta2-ng) turned on the power and in Petitboot screen selected to boot from uSD card…
For me, everything works as it’s supposed to do, except that I’m not satisfied with new -no performance playing h264/h265 videos. It looks jerky as if it displays only every second or third frame, but frame counter does not show any skipped frames…

Will make a fresh new installation, because I don’t understand the mix-up with dtb.img-es after doing only updates, as there are now 4 dtb.img files I’m not sure which to use, before I make debug info.

Btw, did you try to install and boot -no version with just uSD card inserted (No eMMC and nothing in USB) with SPI switch in MMC position?

Thanks for your reply.

No I did not, as I did not want to disassemble the N2. Was trying to avoid doing that.

I have similar problem on my n2+ with video playback. If you are using subtitles try disabling them and see if that fixes it.

@Portisch I did some more tests on NO.

It seems that the new kernel does not read the EDID of switched-off TV at all resulting in crashes when using ioctl FBIOGET_OSD_DMABUF with switched-off TV (Cannot get DMA for OSD). It seems that kernel does not set the voltage for EDID ROM. I only tested with VDR in chroot environment so far. However, KODI should have the same problem when booting with switched-off TV. .cache/cores is full of core dumps afterwards.

In addition, KODI seems to change a few audio settings. When starting VDR in chroot, dolby digital audio passthrough is OK. After suspending VDR, starting KODI, stopping KODI and getting back to VDR, dolby digital passthrough does not work any more (only a cracked sound). After a reboot, everything is fine again.

Since I use 3 different OS installations on 3 eMMC I have a simple (transparent) enclosure with the top that slides off easily, which makes the change of eMMC ā€œpiece of cakeā€

Thnx, will try that also…

mee too
no start
stuk on the box logo
H96MAX s905w2 generic (that work in NE)

Why nobody paste a dmesg | paste log from a working system? So how we should solve such issues?

very much paste

Thanks for your reply.

I forgot to mention that when I first boot from the uSD I get the partition making normal stuff and it ends with rebooting in ?? secs.

It’s only from that point it fails to boot and I get the screen in my previous post. I don’t even get the Hardkernel logo.

Just thought I would make that clear.

I tried with latest version ( 20231227) and it’s much less obvious, but still jerky.
Disabling subtitles video works OK, as expected…

@CE team, which components should I choose when making debug.log to shed more light on this ā€œsubtitleā€ problem on N2

At this point, if you cold reboot (power cycle) is it the same or you first see Hardkernel logo?

Yes, first see the Hardkernel logo.

One thing I did notice is the text in the Call Trace is always slightly different.

I did an install of Nexus Stable onto the same uSD and all is good. So the issue is related to -no.

This is my DMESG log in my 905w2 with NE CoreELEC 21.0-Omega_beta2 generic image
CoreELEC~ # dmesg.txt (96.2 KB)

I think a UART log from a S905W2 is required from Amlogic-no to see what is wrong.
We have no such device in our hands.

Have you ever tried without eMMC installed, just with uSD card fresh installation?
