Amlogic S928X

No J or K on box, just S928X. I’m afraid to install the slimBOX ROM, and even if I was to, would I install the non-Pro one or the Pro?

At this point, don’t buy this box, at least the low-end 4GB/32GB variant I got. DV playback is spotty.

A couple of commands from 8/64 version
RE:Dolby Vision compatible SoC

journalctl l -l | grep -i dovi

https://paste.coreelec.org/ClearEnergy

dmesg | grep dv capability

https://paste.coreelec.org/KillingsPaging

lsmod | grep dovi

https://paste.coreelec.org/AgathaIntegral

This is the x10 (non pro)? your dv capability is reporting ‘7’ which should only happen on DV licensed SOCs.

This is from X96X10 PRO 8/64 version

@freddy , how’s dv playback, same issues as hdmkv or spot on? I will order today if that is good.

From images posted
I have difference in System/Info/Hardware

Img reads as X96 X10

Mine reads as X96 X10 Pro

When you write to internal
Data from Android Vendor bootload is partitioned

Is what CoreELEC needs to boot.

It does appear that you have Dolby Vision SoC
From images posted anyway

All Dolby Vision testfile i have tested playback
Seem to be no issues
Load up fast

It should be noted
These are test files, not full Movies
Eagle Beak
Gru rise if mnions
Halloween part2
True Romance
A bunch from Doppingkoala 1000 nits 8,etc
cpm test files

Also noted i have not tested the Test File in HDMKV u tube video he posted

Someone post the link to actual testfile and i will

Also i did test some files from HDMKV kodi wiki link
I Phone 6s MOV
LG Demo Dolby Vision MKV
Hybrid HDR10 Plus Dolby Vision MKV

They tested fine
Loaded right up

Iam using Latest Nightly. NE 10/2
With Use Player LED
Enabled

And lastly Do Not Buy a Box Based on only my Experience

Happy Testing

Thanks for testing, the box is looking enticing for the price.

Yeah buying will be my decision, we will have more testers for it anyways.

Just courious, why use player led?

The Dolby Vsion option is only available if support_info is equal 7, so SoC support DV:

Just to clarify once again, there are versions of the X96 X10 with 4GB RAM that have DV support. I have one. What we alerted users about is that the 8GB version is certainly the S922X-J and the 4GB can be a gamble but for what I’ve read, almost all bought in the last few months are DV capable.

Can you check if either of these work? I can play them on my AM6B+ (-ng), but not on the AM8 Pro (-ne).

Both files are working with CE ne omega and piers

Thank you for the information.

@Portisch, are there any commands I could run to see what is different between the two boxes I have? I have tried connecting the AM8 Pro also directly to the TV (LG G3) but it did not change anything.

Do you have similar DV file playback issues as I do w/my 4GB/32GB version? I bought this vs. the Pro 8GB/64GB unaware one was the ‘J’ chip and the others not.

Okay
Tested both files on X96 X10 Pro 8/64 version

With Player LED Disabled

No playback both files
Black Screen

With Player LED Enabled

Dolby Test RPU Not Working File
Playback is excellent/loads fast/TV Flags as Dolby Vision / no issues

Beverly Hills Cop File
Playback glitchy/trys to Playback as HDR10/TV Flags as Dolby Vision then breaks and flags as HDR10
NO Playback/major issues
Maybe is a blend of HDR10 and Dolby Vision??

“Excellent” results, at least I have the same with TV led enabled. I never got them to work with Player led either.

Both files are encoded by me and they are just bog standard DoVi P8 clips and the RPU was injected while encoding with x265. The Beverly Hills Cop file is a little different as it was encoded in chunks and merged with mkvmerge.

So it probably is down to the kernel itself, because the clips play fine on AM6B+ with an ng build.

Think @freddy is saying the opposite… that only with Player-led enabled, the DV files play fine. With that disabled (TV-led), I also have playback issues w/my 4GB/32GB version. I’ll test w/Player-led enabled and report back.
