Black Screen with 8.95.4.1 and 4k TVs

So it seems that in fixing the previous black screen problem we have introduced a new black screen problem for users with 4k TVs.

Like the blackscreen issue on 8.95.4 this is an issue with the information provided by the TV to your device, and how CE uses that information. So when CE receives incorrect information about your TVs capabilities, it gets confused and thinks the display mode requested by kodi is not possible, even when it is. Resulting in a black screen/no signal.

As stated before the shear number of different models of TVs, combined with the number of different AVR that could be used with them makes this impossible to test on every possible combination before release.

If users affected by this can post the make and model of TV, and if the TV has HDR support, and state if you have an avr between your device and the TV

also the contents of

/sys/devices/virtual/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/edid

would be helpful.

also if you using an AVR or other device between your device and the TV, try directly connecting your device to the tv, and providing the out put of the previously mentioned file while directly connected to the TV.

edit: and if you haven’t already posted one a kodi log, and the output of dmesg might be helpful as well. (though remember to use pastebin or similar method for the log file and dmesg output since they can be pretty big and make the thread hard to follow when pasted directly into a message. )

Just updated my S912 to 8.95.4.1 and now I don’t see anything after booting. When I ssh to my box I see that Kodi is running. Tried the disp_cap part but it didnt work.

EDIT: Forgot the log

I still have the black screen with 8.95.4.1 on my Mini MXIII II (s905x).

Here are the logs:
kodi: http://ix.io/1q4K
dmesg: http://ix.io/1q4L

When I start kodi normally (reboot) I can see the splash and then my TV says there is no signal. If I create the disp_cap file the behavior is slightly different. I still get to see the splash, then the TV is black but it seems to get a signal.

Hello,

i have between Odroid C2 an TV a Denon AV Receiver. When i connect directly the Philips 4K Android TV, i have a Screen. When i go down in Resolution on Full HD, the AV Receiver show the screen. After a select in Kodi to 4K, the AV Receiver show a black screen…
So, i think, the new Version have a Problem with 4K Resolution on certain Devices. Before the upate, the AV Receiver show 4k Resolution.

I hope, it was helpfull. btw, the disp_cap hint have doesnt help me.

Thank you for trying this, I too have a Denon AVR and can confirm this behavior. Setting the Display resolution in kodi to 1080p instead of 4K fixes the black screen for me.

This is still a bug though and will hopefully get fixed in the next version

Do you know, can i make a downgrade?

Beelink Gt1 (not ultimate). Updated to 8.95.4.1 from 8.95.3 and black screen issue appeared. Using a Yamaha AVR(RX-V483) between the Beelink and the tv(Samsung UE65MU7002). Had no issues when using 8.95.3. Already have reverted, and waiting an update.

8.95.4 working fine via KIII
but after upgrade to 8.95.4.1 i have black screen after logo coreelec

how fix it ?

Just upgraded my KIII to 8.95.4.1 and I don’t have this issue. (8.95.4 was also working fine)

@derTyp @jtsarnas @mhbosch can you please post the contents of
/sys/devices/virtual/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/edid

@mhbosch yes its possible to downgrade to 8.95.3 by placing the appropriate .tar file for your build into the .update folder on your device. so in your case for the C2 that would be CoreELEC-Odroid_C2.arm-8.95.3.tar

Same issue on le potato. 8.95.4 was fine, 8.95.4.1 only black screen after boot logo.

@Kiina can you tell me which tv you have and if you have an avr between the le potato and the tv?

PHILIPS 55PUK4900. I have a Yamaha RX-v381 in between but I tested a direct connection just now and same behaviour

can you give me the output of that last file when directly connected?

Do you need the same by directly connect to the TV in 4K Resolution?

It would be helpful have both as you had it setup and directly connected to the TV
