CoreELEC 19.4-Matrix_rc3 Discussion

For all of you who can’t boot from SD card: can you try this image?
And if it boots post url for command

dmesg | paste

MINIX NEO T5. I tried this file. Boot from SD card and USB stick. After the MINIX logo, restart loop, impossible to issue the command.

did not work! same screen error.

For those that are seeing hanging upon the presence of the CE logo, do you initially notice that soon after the logo appears there is a small flashing off white (looks like text) towards the upper left of the screen?

I have a perfectly black screen with a white word MINIX. I don’t have a blinking cursor. The logo disappears after 2-3 seconds and reappears in the boot loop. The last working bulid for my device is 19.4 RC1.

@Piter we have a Minix NEO T5 by using g12a_s905x2_2g_1gbit and booting rc3 just fine. So you will need to search for the reason on your side. You got already hints to perform clean install, different boot media and other ideas…

Or you open the device and do make a UART log:

For now, I don’t want to reinstall all from scratch.
I update from RC3 to RC2 same problem
I update from RC2 to 19.3 same problem

Before updating to V19.4 RC3 all this previous version worked well

Can you take a look to my log to say what addon is the problem ?
Thanks

Running 19.4-Matrix_nightly_20220220
on Odroid N2+

I switched the white/blue LED off when I bought this device.
I’m almost certain I did that with a UI entry in System / CoreELEC menu / Disable Heartbeat.
I definitely didn’t run a command through SSH or edit an INI file to disable it.

However recently I noticed that the LED is blinking again and the entry in the System / CoreELEC is missing.

I tried running the command listed instead, via SSH as root:
echo none > /sys/devices/platform/leds/leds/blue:heartbeat/trigger

However receive:
-sh: can’t create /sys/devices/platform/leds/leds/blue:heartbeat/trigger: nonexistent directory

Does that mean the functionality was removed by HardKernel?

It is certainly eyecatching, I’d quite like to switch it off again please.

As to the CEC issue:

I checked again and there was one last CEC option on: turning the TV on device start. So I turned it off. And it kind of “helped”. Unfortunately, controlling the Kodi via tha TV remote control stopped working completely. So I had to turn it on again. Now, I am back where I was.

I would suspect the LG TV is strange, but I had no such problems running LibreELEC 9 on a RaspberryPi on the same TV a few months ago.

No, the option is still present (moved from config.ini to dtb.xml)
In CoreElec Settings go to Hardware → Device Tree → System Led → on/off

Or, to turn it off change the 3rd line in dtb.xml from:
<sys_led status=“heartbeat” version=“0”> to:
<sys_led status=“off” version=“0”>

Please just use the GUI interface and do not manually modify configuration files:
https://wiki.coreelec.org/coreelec:ce_addon_hardware

As Garcea already said more logs are required. What device you use? You have bl301 injected?

And please try to enter suspend and when it woke up please run demsg | paste and post the resulting link here, thx.

@Shoelander thanks for the response, understood where the new config lies but deferring to Portisch.

Portisch, understood but as mentioned that heartbeat option is now missing from the UI. I’m not sure how long it has been the case but ever since first boot, I upgraded to 19 immediately, set the heartbeat off and have been hitting install nightlies - no manual tampering.

Here’s a shot of the options I see now and the heartbeat is back on.

Where did the “usual” N2 options go?

It’s not possible, you might have a autostart script modify the dtb.img. when the node path is not found the option gets hidden.

So remove all automatic dtb.img mods and after it replace the dtb.img by the original one. Also remove dtb.xml once and then the option should be available again.

It’s working as I tested it just today.

Thank you for your guidance.

I refreshed the dtb using the N2Plus_v3, I think? in the device tree folder then deleted the dtb.xml.
The system menu is back and the light off. Good news.

I know I have not willingly installed any autostart script or mod. As such, I did not remove any before that.

Can addons touch the dtb?
Out of curiosity I ran each addon I have installed and rebooted. The system menu is still present and correct.
As such, I don’t understand how the dtb was damaged but it is fixed, so thank you.

I have installed:

  • Youtube
  • Janitor
  • Network Tools
  • Subsonic (not trusted)
  • EZ Maintenance + (not trusted)

No dtb modifiers installed. Tried unplugging for a few hours and the old menu reappeared. Curious. Looked at dtb.xml (no altering) It said “migrated”
