yes, unless you have issues or you want a new feature, I see no reason to update. I’ve been using the same old build for months without issues.
Thank you for sharing with us, I’m new to CE OS what do you " a new feature"? regards.
In this case, it is support for 3D. IMHO, if you care about Dolby Vision and HDR, I would go with CPM’s build.
I’m not sure if the old version I posted includes support for Dual-Track Dual-Layer rip

If i connect my hdd via the otg port, the reading is very slow with opening maps and movies.
But if i connect via usb 2.0 port then its very fast. Is this normal?
Change remux first. I have watched both of these films without any issue.
Test framestor or cinephiles version to check.
Which version of the nightly do you need? I’ve been collecting them daily (or at least every time a new build is cut) since early May. So I should have it if you need it.
no one in particular, thanks. Someone already sent me an old build that works for me.
I now have switched to the latest @cpm T4 build and it works very well so unless I face other issues, I won’t be upgrading my ugoos for a while.
can you share your collection?
do you have link for T4?
Having some trouble with LL-DV lately, videos are all starting playback all green. I believe it was working end of July (like maybe the 7-20/21 builds), but on 8-03 and 8-04, all DV files are green for me (may have happened earlier than 8-03, just when I most recently played a DV file and noticed it).
It almost looks like dovi.ko isn’t able to load (not sure if I am interpreting the journal log correctly). I re-downloaded from the guide post to be sure, but same issue.

Appreciate the help and any tips!
Ahh, I found the issue, please disregard. Somehow “Use Player LED” got unchecked. Not sure if an update did it, or me stumbling around when setting up a new skin. Sony TV that only does LL-DV, and having that checked is required. I rechecked it and now everything is back to working.
If you don’t already have one, then not really. Not only are they no longer manufactured, it’s likely any unit you find second hand has newer firmware. IIRC folks got CoreELEC working on the Cube because it used an exploit that’s since been patched in newer FireTV firmware. It appears a newer exploit was found, but sounds like it comes with some glaring risks where either an OTA or factory reset will brick it. I think that newer one still has a firmware version limit?
Then you have the limitation where the ethernet port is limited to 100Mbps. This is actually not high enough to play some titles that exceed that bitrate, even with a large readahead cache buffer. So you’d need to get a dongle. Doesn’t have any other USB port, I’m pretty sure it lacks an IR receiver.
So if you have one just laying around gathering dust, I guess go for it. But if you gotta spend the money, I’d suggest just getting the Ugoos box…
Not sure why but that setting tends to get flipped whenever you apply either a restore tarball, or update. I think possibly in both scenarios.
Quite literally if you have this connected to a TV that can only do player led. I’ve gotten in the habit of just automatically checking that on the next reboot after updating or restoring.
Fire TV Cube has both an IR receiver and IR blaster + IR blaster extension, all work. CEC remote control works fine too. The only thing currently not working is BLE (BT BR/EDR works). BLE can be added with a $5 BT dongle.
You can get over 400Mbps on WiFi under ideal conditions. With a gigabit Ethernet USB Hub combo it gets ~300Mbps. That’s more than enough for any Blu-ray. For example playing Ghost in the Shell II (~90Mbps average bitrate), the video loads fast no buffering issues. As far as video playback and seeking, I can’t tell the difference between ~300Mbps and 1gibit.
Any new Cube (still many on eBay) can be unlocked and used with CE. The warning about bricking the device is a standard disclaimer that comes with unlocking any device. No unlocked Cubes have been reported hard bricked so far.
The unlock step is required because the Cube is a Netflix certified device with Widevine L1 & Playready DRM. All DRM is maintained with the unlock.
Well I’ll be damned. I stand corrected. I wrote off my Cube 2nd gen from what appears to be incorrect information.
Are you telling me even a device with the latest firmware can be unlocked to run CoreELEC, without risk of hard bricking? Might be time to repurpose mine.
if i safely remove the usb hdd, the message comes to late on the top right that the hdd is removed. i get the message only when only take out the drive. can this solved with an update?
