Dolby Vision for Minix U22X-J (Max) and Ugoos AM6+

Sounds promising, been waiting for a fix for this.

I noticed the Gemini Man issue as well and it’s almost certainly related to the 12bit problem - it tries to play at 12bit 60Hz which isn’t a valid mode (at least on my set up). My workaround for this was to force 4:4:4 in the settings, but sounds like that might not be necessary any more

EDIT: yep, working great here too!

This is exciting news.

I wonder if this will resolve the CD issue I saw when I didn’t set refresh rate switching trying to playback DV content. It’s why I’ve been deliberately running at 60hz instead of 59.94hz.

YES! That is great news! Thank you @Portisch

I can confirm that the s922x uses VS10, and that VS12 is used by the A311D2. Not sure about s905x4 and s928x. At least this is the case for Amazon’s s922x and A311D2 Dolby Vision devices. The Amazon s922x dovi_vs10.ko didn’t output any video on the u922xj or am6+ so I can’t rule out that there might be a difference in dv capabilities of the s922 soc used be those two vs the 2nd gen Cube, but i doubt it.

I wonder if the dovi_vs10.ko from S928XJ might work like from the Dune 8K. But if the Amazon s922 version didn’t work, it might be a long shot.

Is that something the Dune team needs to provide? Or can that be gotten from the device itself.

What are the recommended settings for Am6b+?

Is there a way to figure out if DV P7 FEL/MEL is working on PlexMod4K? I’m using LG C2 TV

Download and play the video here to verify DV FEL

In addition to what others have mentioned. I’ve built a few Am6b+ boxes for family and friends and the below is the Kodi settings I select so it’s more plug and play for them:

• set gui to 3180x2160p and 60hz for Kodi upscaling, Most content I watch is 4K, the black screen/sync delay is less. The box does a fine job upscaling since algos are well known here. If you want TV to upscale everything, you will need to set a whitelist on either 4K or 2K GUI

• audio to no gui sounds

• set audio passthrough to HDMI vs SPDIF driver

• set audio passthrough for whatever audio codecs your tv/receiver supports

• disable noise reduction

• cache settings to all methods: smb, local, remote, etc (default ignores local playback)

• set cache to ‘adaptive’ readfactor (default is 4x)

• set 64mb cache size (default is only 20mb)

• install from unknown repo

• update from any repo

• vc-1 hw acceleration exclude 24fps (bug mentioned above in the chat. this should be done on software)

• hw acceleration set to always for other codecs (default does not accelerate mpeg-4)

• set timezone country

• set timezone state

• add remote.conf to configfiles folder for default remote (reference the coreelec remote library for default remote setup)

• verify autoupdate settings. i usually install a coreelec nightly to capture all the bug fixes, but then set it to update to “next stable” so it doesn’t update every night

• set cec settings: ignore tv shutoff, dont shutoff tv, dont turn on tv (these work best for me but ymmv). box is on 24/7 since power draw is so little on these

• add asteroids screensaver

• change screensaver to asteroids (so it’s easier to tell if the TV hasn’t been turned off vs black)

• install to ceemmc using dualboot option so SD card can be removed:

ceemmc -x

• optional: set colorimetry to bt.2020 (vs the default). create ‘autostart.sh’ file in configfiles folder and place the following line:

echo Y > /sys/module/hdmitx20/parameters/dovi_tv_led_bt2020

or no colorimetry:

echo Y > /sys/module/hdmitx20/parameters/dovi_tv_led_no_colorimetry

This makes no difference on my TV, but is only a matter of “correctness”.

• optional: for Plex (specifically PM4K) set skin to ‘Plexuary’ via panni’s repo. Certain dialog menus display improperly without it.

Is there a way to change PGS subtitle color? I remember there are settings like Grey/DarkGrey. Somehow I could not find it.

Hi liquidion, thanks for your guide but can you help me find the above settings?
This cec setting stuff I really need to find because with the ugoos hdmi plugged in when I turn my tv off the tv immediately turns back on by itself

It’s under system / input / peripherals.

Thanks much. Anybody else have this tv turning back on my itself problem? I just changed the “What to do when TV turns off” setting from default suspend to hibernate though I don’t know the difference between the two. Will monitor the situation…

Actually the third option might be causing intermittent stuttering with DV material for me using PM4K or when playing the same files from USB stick plugged into the Ugoos. Especially when coming out of a pause or even sometimes when starting the vid. So yes, hopefully soon we can goodbye to this DV problem with Sony TVs

Edit : Changed Kodi from forced 8bit back to Auto, then played these same DV files from USB stick and still have the same intermittent choppy stuttering. Oh no! But will wait for new dovi fix nightly before reporting this. I have already increased the cache to 64 and to adaptive following guides above

Nice settings, been following along with your guide too but this setting is greyed out (greyed to on) so I can’t disable it… CoreELEC-Amlogic-ng.arm-21.0-Omega_nightly_20240422-Generic.img

  • Settings > Interface > Screensaver > Use dim if paused during video playback = Disabled

Wanted to report some issues I’m seeing with audio sync. Could be specific to my setup, but not sure.

My hardware chain: AM6B+ → Yamaha AVR → LG G3

I had auto-lipsync enabled on my AVR and it was setting a 125ms delay while watching things through the AM6B+, which is close, but not exactly synced. I manually set it to 110ms and it looks nearly perfect to my eyes, but I should probably get a test video for syncing audio to be sure. Also not sure if CoreELEC has any part in this or if the AVR is guessing on its own.

Another thing, when skipping chapters in a video it usually pushes the audio out of sync and I have to do a 10 second backwards skip to get it to resync.

This is on the 21 stable release.

I can check later.

Hi guys,

Firstly a huge shout out and thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread and taken this project to where it is today.

I’ve been following this topic for a while and have only recently saved up enough to buy one of these players.

My dilemma is which one of the two (minix neo u22-xj max or ugoos am6b plus) to buy, both are around the same price.

Also I’m not sure if it was on this thread or on another forum but I read that there might be plans to give the Ugoos AM8 (S928X-J) the same treatment. But not sure how true this is?

FYI Change is now in the nightly 20240424.
