Homatics Box R 4K Plus

What you want with the .xml? We talking about the remote.conf file.
Watch here for install a remote.

I have a remote.xml file, which I think (hope) is a backup of my remote configuration. But I remember placing the file through ssh in some folder of kodi.
Never mind, I’ll figure this out. Maybe I just copied the wrong file for safekeeping.

That’s probably a Kodi Keymap file.

Yep, I think it is. Never had any experience with the remote.conf file and didn’t realize at first it’s not the same

Installed CE-NG 21.2 on Dune-HD Homatics R 4K Pro, works fine, except that “Reboot from eMMC/NAND” does not show up, so i can not easily reboot into Android.
I could fix this by commenting out the following line in DialogButtonMenu.xml in skin.estuary/xml:

Neither of these two files exist on my system. So, is this a bug in CE / estuary - or did i overlook some magic installation mushroom to bring either of those files into existance ?

Add https://pm4k.eu/ to your Kodi installation as a source in file manager
Go to Settings->Addons, choose “Install from zip file”, choose the file source you added and install the repository, Install Skin via Settings->Addons->Install from repository->Don’t Panic->Look and Feel->Skin->Plextuary CE or C.P.M

that should add the reboot to emmc option.

Thanks, PM4K works fine.

But my question was whether this is a bug in estuary in 21.2-Omega, CE-NG, and if so, if and if so, how it should be reported.

In PM4K, it also checks for /dev/super, and that does exist on my box…

Just installed Coreelec on my Homatics Dune R 4K. And one remark that maybe better to put also in install guide from @pretoriano80

Use only USB stick of max 32GB in size. If you will try to use USB stick of bigger size for boot / installation, the box will always end up in Android recovery menu.

I can not corroberate that experience for the Dune-HD Homatics R 4k Plus running Android 11. I installed CoreElec CE-NG without problems on 265GByte SSD USB Stick and later onto 128gbyte USB Stick.
Maybe you can try to provide the details of your system - firmware version, which CE version you tried ? (CE-NE / CE-NO ?) If it actually reproducable fails on newer CE, this may be a regression bug in CE (given how it works on CE-NG).

I used the latest CE 21.2 NE for installation. Android of the box I didn’t touch at all. The boot process for different USB sticks was also not the same: with 8GB the box booted from it after about 5 sec starting installation of CE; with 64GB the LED itself didn’t turn on for quiet a while and after about a minute Android recovery menu showed up. It doesn’t matter which USB port I use.

So you never tried to get the ATV 12 upgrade on your Dune box ? Just checking. I asked for the upgrade but did not receive it.

During installation, i think CE resizes the filesystem to fill the whole disk. But that should not take very long. But could be longer the larger the disk is.

Is it possible that you forgot to copy/rename the dtb file when you initialized the larger USB sticks ? Just happened to me, when i tried to reinstall to different USB flash drives. Makes the box go into a boot loop flashing a white screen every hmm… 15 seconds ?

I tried to update Android on Dune box, it has version 11 and it says it is the latest. So no change on that side. I tried several times to copy CE-NE image on 64GB USB stick together with dtb file, but no luck. The box just doesn’t boot from it. I can see the contents of USB stick though, when I enter android recovery menu - install update from USB. So I suppose it is some part of firmware that comes before CE installation. The partition resize process does not even start it that case.

latest Android 12 update here, install through recovery.

Remove power, push reset pin, reconnect ppwer, wait until you see “Upgrading” on screen, then release reset pin ???
What tool did you use to copy the CE img file to the usb stick ? I always only use linus and dd or pv. No idea if belana etcher may do something funky.

Balena etcher did his job on all usb Stick sizes for me on dune/Homatics box R 4k + … Currently I’m on 256gb Samsung fit plus drive … So maybe only you have this issue.

Ok thank you for the update, i will try ti install it also.
Anyway I’m using now 8GB stick with CE, no problem with that.
I used rufus to copy image to USB. It always worked before and now for 8GB stick also. So yes it is a bit strange.

Maybe the worst V12 version ever shared, but when mostly using CE maybe usable for a user. A wise advice from Dune

nah it works perfectly fine for everything that Android is used for in this case IPTV and SmartTube, media playback is handled by CoreElec anyway so better to have latest Android 12 version and still be able to run CE data storage on emmc.

Ok I installed the Android 12 update for Dune, but that didn’t change a thing.
I tried to use also balena to copy image and also different versions of CE: NG & NE. None of the combinations wants to boot and install from 64GB USB stick.
I don’t have any access to debug deeper why the box is not booting and I think it is not worth it. I have my smaller USB stick with CE running and I’m ok with that.

In another thread on this forum i pointed out that on CE-NG on the Dune-HD, the flash /storage does not work reliable for me in stress testing (reading large files). This is no proof that it would also fail if you used it to play back e.g.: DV FEL UHD iso from /storage, but it would make me worry that it could. This is a CE-ND linux kernel issue, not occurring on the newer CE-NE kernel. But if like me you want to have a DV FEL setup, then it seems safer anyhow to stream from NAS and not rely on (large) USB stick. So, IMHO, nothing lost if you can’t do large USB stick. Although it does stay puzzling why the glitch picked you.
