Kinhank G1

Thank, I think I’ll wait for the next AM6B+ deal. Then I have a supported device for the foreseeable future.

I have no use for Android of VC1 so yeah If it was my main device I would get the AM6B+, I’m not sure what support it will have though. One of the developers has said that the SOC will be supported probably longer than CoreELEC would be active.

saying that this website gives you indication on when the next big sales will be up

around January 8th this year we had a decent sale, so maybe January 8th would be the next. The more you buy the higher the discount on offer.

6 weeks ago I posted a deal with codes so you can buy both the AM6B+ and the KinHank G1 for $148.73 (pre tax). So 171.29 Euros after 20% tax
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=376035&pid=3215468#pid3215468

At the time we didn’t have hungphutho modded fw or the ability to downgrade fw if it was bootlocked , but now that we do I would have bought that offer for both. One for main room. Anyway you can see Aliexpress always has deals and wait till you can grab one, If you never shopped in aliexpress you’ll get a discount for new comer. I’ll post deals if I come across one

It took me a while but now i get why CE unsupported this box, it’s sudden stop of Ethernet chip, & worst wifi signal on 100m-practically unusable, it’s pirating without consent & forced lock bootloader
-workaround is still not easy,i mean not all know shortening lus you need the tools for it etc etc.

Imo just get others and avoid this box altogether & don’t listen to @iMediaPi or others trying to sell this even it’s dirt cheap, it’s not worth even half the hassle.

Hey there @xmlcom , I have done some more testing with the WiFi on mine. I believe the issue with WiFi has to do with the way Kodi/CE handles the player cache but I’m not 100% sure.

Irrespective of the caching settings, if I turn the Wireless Network Off/On a couple of times in CE settings, I see that it fixes the playback of high bitrate files. And it stays that way as long as the box is only suspended but not shut down. If the box is shut down however, then it is again back to the square one on the boot up and I have to turn off/on the Wireless network.

The reason I said this issue seems to be due to the player cache is because I have observed through the skin of another banned build that whenever I play any high bitrate files through WiFi for the first time after booting up, the player cache % keeps crashing down to 0% and then comes back up to 90-100% after a few seconds and that keeps repeating leading to a completely stopped playback every few seconds.

But after I turn the Wireless Network off/on, this issue goes away and the player cache consistently remains at around 90+ percentage and has stable playback. However, there are still some caveats with WiFi, it has completely crashed my box a few times and I had to unplug and plug it back for it to reboot. And sometimes, the CE settings add on doesn’t open up saying it’s not ready yet.

Luckily, my box has 1Gbit Ethernet and hence I switched back to it and it’s completely free of any issues. I’m just letting everyone know my observations with WiFi on this box.

I understand your frustration and disappointment, I made it clear that if it was for the main living room then to get the better box, I literally said that one post above yours. I’m only going off others experience and trying to help to those who want to purchase it.

You even wrote yourself “In Android the WiFi is always on/stable and can watch high bitrate films in kodi bia smb/nfs/plex no problem.”

So this is a software issue, I’m sure you would love your G1 if the software was fixed and there is other evidence that it’s software from mugmealer. When the Pi first came out it had so many issues. almost all hardware when it comes out has issues. Team CoreELEC have rightly stopped support because of KinHank stealing without compensating on CoreELEC work but your statement is incorrect, if they wanted to they could fix issues with this revision on software side most likely and it costs money to do revisions. they never sold the box as having gigabit, and now have removed it. Now is it guaranteed they won’t have another hardware revision in future? no, but we’ll find out since I see more people buying this. Just because it doesn’t meet your high needs doesn’t mean this box will not work for 90% of people. Not everyone is playing such high bitrate and you are playing over nfs

Ok so i did more tests, managed to get 180mb+ on WiFi 6 but still can’t play 1917/oppenheimer via nfs

and using nas/plex?

We still need more data on other use cases, not everyone is interested in playing dolby vision in high bitrate over nfs using nas/plex and then using wifi. have you tested ethernet? or used Sholander advice and get a cheap USB3 adapter?

the tool you need for workaround is $1.53 (+tax), someone managed to do it without soldering. This box can be picked up for like $40 in sales. so for those that don’t need your use case and okay with tinkering, it’s worth a shot, won’t you say?

I appreciate you letting others know for that use case it’s not working

Thanks @mugmealer for the extensive research. But 1gb Ethernet chip affects wifi so all new box with 100m will have even worse wifi like mine with more testing below.

@iMediaPi Have more updates after more tests. unfortunately i think is more hardware , as found out android wifi has same issue you get good speed then it goes down 1min later so the stuttering comes back over nfs/smb etc. Tried usb3 to Ethernet adapter & sadly only gets 90mb(don’t know maybe because it’s usb 2.0 only)

The main issue is the instability of the wifi in this box it fluctuates so much unlike my minix which works fine constantly with the WiFi.

My opinion still stands, don’t get this box as your main is too much hassle as they only ship 100m for now & even with usb3 Ethernet adaptor you’ll still get below 100mb.

On the other hand, in my opinion and experience, you get 350+ Mbit/s with proper USB3.0 to Ethernet adapter. Achieved speed does not depend only on G1/adapter abilities, but also greatly to the rest of your network (components) it is connected.

I think many people mistake about 2 different things 1) Direct speed on Internet and 2) speed between devices via NAS network through their Internet modem.

Thinking that we will get good speed direct from Internet ok but If to play high bitrate from NAS with any device which will use a modem to communicate between them its wrong. G1 or any device will stuttering on huge files. This is a network issue, not android Box issue.

I have an expensive gbit TV which work good straight to Internet but stuttering on NAS because of the modem…

No Vendor mass produces TV Boxes so 3rd Party Operating Systems can be used on them.

Unfortunately with Open Source Project’s
This can happen

Kinhank Retro Gaming Box ships with an SD Card
Presumably with CoreELEC/EmuELEC Loaded

Which is no different than any user here
Who does the same with any TV Box

The issue is/was the Promotion/Advertising of a Fully loaded Box EmuELEC with working Dolby Vision CoreELEC.

With no contact/permission from Team
Disrespectful/No Class/Just leaves a bad taste in Developer
And rightly so they have dropped Support

Soon to be 2025
Maybe is time to stop promoting this Box

If only Kinhank had contacted CoreELEC months ago.
Things would be different.

As far as i know, you dont even own this Box
You are one of the most frequent poster in this Thread
All someone has to do is use any Search engine
And will be directed Here

It was the Blatant Advertising/Promoting this Box on Social Media that is the issues.
Facebook group chats/ reddit etc…
No wonder Big G forced the update

No one should by a TV Box that requires manipulation of the PCB/Custom Rom

I have this Box since April/May
And yes i was able to j-tag /downgrade Bootloader with success

In the end

I Do Not Recommend This BOX

If CE is not going to support this box then I think it might be a good idea for @YadaYada or the CE team to either remove it from this post or add disclaimers next to it: CE-NG Dolby Vision (+FEL) for DV-licensed SOCs (s905x2, s922x/z, s905x4)

I bought this box by looking at that post and thinking this is the cheapest option without realizing all this Ethernet and locked bootloader stuff. I was lucky enough to get an unlocked one with 1Gbit, but many won’t be going forward.

everything is clear about this box and it’s time to close this post

No one would look at G1 and flooding would stop automatically if you or anyone else recommends a box with same abilities and price.

Is anybody forcing you to open/read ANY post in this topic, or is it just pure old envy ?

Doesn’t all the issues tell why the price is what it is

Yes it does absolutely, but I also know (also personally) people who cannot afford any of FEL potent/Widevine L1 boxes that are here recommended, so G1 comes as one and for some, the only option.

Btw, I also know why Europe and US are fearing Chinese EV

It is fine to buy and use. But user must be prepared to have some issues with it to get actually used. If user is good at least to follow instructions (probably from here) it’s fine. BUt there are other user types who can’t follow instructions and then they are disspointed to CE. Which is really unfair. How they are saying: You get what you pay for.

Then there is only 1 question left, what is the German version, which is available under various names?
SMART ANDROID TV BOX G1, original SDMC or Kinhank?
I know the difference!

Right, I also often see users that are not satisfied with CE Team, for reasons most of the time not having anything to do with CE-OS versions.
Todays style of communication, for some, has only meaning and satisfaction if they can (here, but also everywhere else) play down or even insult any one connected with development; as if they paid for guaranty & service when they bought their device.

Whats even better Is TV LED mode is working
Play back test file is
8 - bit RGB DV-Std Bt .709

On the X96X10 PRO S928X-J TV LED mode is broken
Play back is
8 - bit YUV 444 SDR Bt .709

Unreal

CoreELEC has had decades of work put into it and is polished but have you forgotten it’s roots? its given you good results compared to a S928X-J, everything we do is hack LOL. CoreELEC is a piece of software that gives you a new OS. hungphutho created a working fw that does what we want it to. how is that different from loading nightly? Team CoreELEC could do the same, so I don’t understand that point. and the UART mod works 100%. It’s kind of hypocritical of you to now say you don’t recommend this box and not to promote it when without this promotion we won’t have hungphutho work and I’m pretty sure you will carry on using your superior device while you tell others not to buy. No I do not own this box, my enthusiasm comes from turning a box that cost less than half the amount into a better box than twice it’s cost.

You out of all people should appreciate that, you literally appreciating this by using it.

No one should by a TV Box that requires manipulation of the PCB/Custom Rom

no one is forcing anyone to buy this box and it’s barely any manipulation, can be done without solder as been proven and what do you think CoreELEC is if not a custom Rom?
