Problems with Movies and TV Shows

You know how content on Movies and TV pages is empty until media source is defined, and there’s just a couple of text buttons there. Did it that way, and still doesn’t work.

OK trying root file way

remember to choose top level tv folder for tv and top level movie folder for movies.

will be offline for an hour or so.

OK, now folders are showing up on Videos page as Media Sources alongside HD, but the Videos and TV links in Media Sources still don’t work.
On Mac, Videos (is Movies) and TV links bring up list of categories just like on Movies and TV pages, selecting one of those produces that type of display option, moving back from that with remote returns to Movies or Video page.
Works same way on Windows (excepting GUI diffs) - none of this internal os/app folder stuff.
So is this Kodi or CoreELEC?
Is there a wiki for Kodi on CoreELEC as there is a wiki for Kodi Mac?
Where are the CoreELEC gurus with their Kodi wiki links for this?

So , there are now 3 entries on “Media Sources” on kodi homepage (The HD plus tv and movies)? Or did you create 2 new media sources and there are now 5 entries? If you created 2 new media sources, then u could just delete the two unused default media sources from different parts of the gui. However, the default Kodi Estuary skin is very inflexible and may want to point to those default TV and Movie media sources.

If you edited the 2 default media sources, then it would be very strange if they did not work. Looking at the “sources.xml” file would help in that case to verify.

There are many skins in Kodi that allow much more customization of skin categories, headings, submenus etc, but that is a different story.

Just checked and if I switch to Estuary skin, clicking on tv shows or movies under “categories” on video tab does not show my movies or tv shows. That’s because the skin is hardcoded to look at the default location for movies and tv shows. Other skins will allow you to modify the categories so that you can modify where they point to or add your own categories etc.

Now 5 bcause I added Movies and TV folders as Media Sources - Videos, TV, my HD, and Movies, TV folders
Which skin is hardcoded to look at default location? Estuary?
Where is default location?
How do I get Estuary to look at my HD folders I added as Media sources so that clicking on Videos and TV links on Video page brings up Categories to select from for listing Videos or TV files?

Not easy to change Estuary.

Easiest way is to edit the 2 default sources to point to your HDD and then remove the 2 new sources you created, so you end up with 2 default sources and HD.

default location is /storage/tv shows/ or /storage/movies. and you would have to edit the skin xml files directly - that’s why people created extra skins- there’s an Estuary mod skin which is very customizable , but walk before you run.

and where do I go to edit that path? remember I’m on N2 with CoreELEC os not on Mac

and that still doesn’t make sense because when I added movies and tv folders as media sources it populated the movies and tv show pages. so why aren’t the default movies and tv shows links finding all the files I added to the library?

From “Videos”, then “Files”, then right click on the default Movie and TV source and select “edit video source”, then browse, “root filesystem”, “media” etc (as you did for the 2 new ones you created). Once you have changed the 2 default sources, go back to the 2 new ones, right click on those and select remove source.

i have 2 HDs, so I have 2 movies folders.
i have tv shows broken into tv shows (multiseason) and tv miniseries (single season) so I have 4 of those, and even if I combined shows with miniseries, i’d still have 2 for total of 4
so that’s not going to work except with one movies folder and one tv shows folder because that’s all you can choose at one time. if I select one, then close, then select another I’ve changed path from one folder to the other.
i really don’t understand why it’s not set up like on Mac, or on Mac like elsewhere.
What os is CoreELEC considered to be? Linux? is there a Kodi wiki for Linux? there is for Mac
Look at these links - there’s not even those Video/Movies and TV buttons on the Videos page shown in the wiki for adding files
Kodi regular -
https://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_video_sources
Kodi Mac -
https://kodi.wiki/view/Mac_OS_X
when you click through Kodi mac to get to adding video sources, it’s same page as regular kodi

I know that under “categories”, it will always look for tv shows under /storage/tv shows and for movies under /storage/movies. Can’t change that without modifying the xml skin files (no no) or downloading an addon and getting into editing the Estuary skin limited capabilities. I don’t use Estuary as a rule.

The closest would be kodi for android i guess
https://kodi.wiki/view/Android
CoreELEC is based on Linux I think but android would be the closest relative.

OK, am adding TV folder as source instead of 2 subfolders so now I’ll have 1 Video and 1 TV folder.
Will change path from Video and TV button/links and see what happens.
But is there a way to make path from button to other HD as well - to 2 Video folders and 2 TV folders?

So you have 2 external HDs - I always thought you had only 1hd. Movie folder on hd1 and movie folder on hd2. TV show multiseason on hd1 and hd2 and tv show miniseries on hd1 and hd2?
So you would need to setup 4 media sources. With other skins, it is quite easy to have 2 movie menus on main Kodi page (would have to be a different name of course) and have 2 tv menus on main Kodi page - but not with Estuary, must use other skin - like Mimic, Aeon Nox etc.

So on Mac, how do you set it up with these 2 hds and the 4 media sources with estuary skin

Very difficult to see what’s going on.

To point to more than one folder path, go back to edit source, and under browse there is an add option - I’ve never done it this way but it looks like you can have many paths under one media source

You cant mix movies and tv shows - the paths must all point to either movie folders or tv show folders.

Doesn’t matter bcause path doesn’t work from Videos > Videos or TV shows button/links. I still get all the back button …, folders crap.
the only place path change is effective is where I changed it at Videos > Files > Videos and Videos > Files > TV shows.
so how can I delete the Videos and TVshows button/links from the Video home page?
they appear to be useless and don’t even show on the Kodi wiki
