Ugoos AM9 Pro - SoC S6 S905X5-J

Sure. What is your budget?

Haha, good one @vpeter!

My budget is the ultimate glory of testing high-end hardware for the CoreELEC community!

But jokes aside, if you can actually hard-lock the ALSA soundcard index or inject a persistent fix into the S6 kernel branch to prevent this aggressive USB power-down cycle from dropping XMOS/Thesycon DAC devices at cold boot, I’ll happily back your development work with a very generous coffee donation via PayPal.

Let’s fix this for the few audiophiles running the AM9 Pro! :hot_beverage:

To give you a highly relevant diagnostic comparison that might help the community: I am also running a second CoreELEC machine in my setup—a Dune HD equipped with the previous-generation Amlogic S905X4-J SoC.

On that S905X4-J box, the exact same SMSL Thesycon USB DAC architecture works flawlessly. The driver enumeration index remains perfectly locked and persistent across every single reboot, with absolutely zero dropouts. In fact, both systems handle raw asynchronous USB bit-stream audio so exceptionally well that they completely eliminated any onboard Jitter tolerance issues.

This proves that the ALSA USB audio driver stack itself is robust. The regression is strictly isolated to the new S6 (S905X5-J) power-state / ACPI bus enumeration cycle during the early boot phase on the v22 branch.

I hope this specific comparison helps the development team isolate why the S6 architecture executes this aggressive USB drop compared to the rock-solid behavior of the S905X4-J. :musical_score:

I would be incredibly grateful if someone could fix the issue where the AM9 Pro keeps powering on the USB ports even after exiting CoreELEC.

Currently, I’m working around this by booting into Android via the menu instead of exiting CoreELEC, then holding down the power button on the remote and selecting “Power off.” Only then does the AM9 Pro actually shut down, and the USB ports also disconnect.

But I don’t like this as a permanent solution.

I’ll give it a go straight away. Thank you very much for your help and for getting back to me so quickly.

Works fine now, thank you so much

yes the same

@vpeter @Portisch

Android:

I switch off the device, and the USB ports are switched off.

CoreELEC:

I switch off the box, but the USB ports remain switched on.

FW 2.10 – old DTB file: The USB ports remain switched on.

FW 2.20 – new DTB file: The USB ports remain switched on.

FW 2.10 Only: When you click ‘Suspend’, the box switches to standby mode and the USB ports are switched off.
The same: setting>system>power saving>shoutdown funktion>suspend

Please fix this thanks.

Can’t remember if this is done on purpose.
There can be an issue when booting from USB and doing suspend. After resume strange things can happen.

I don’t have plan to change this behaviour. Especially if works the same as with previous firmware for long time.

Correction:
FW 2.10 Only: When you click ‘Suspend’, the box switches to standby mode and the USB ports are switched off.
The same: setting>system>power saving>shoutdown funktion>suspend
From version FW 2.20 onwards, see the post above

Yes, with firmware 2.2.0, USB power is only removed when Android is in use. Switch from CoreELEC to Android and then press and hold the power button. Then press the “Power Off” button.

There is no way to disable USB power by exiting CoreELEC.

The Coreelec team and the Ugoos team should look into this and fix the problem in the next firmware update or nightly build.

Hello, good afternoon. I’m having this problem. The screen calibration is correct, but it doesn’t fully cover the sides.

Check the screen settings on your TV.

It’s been tested, my friend. I have three boxes and I don’t have that problem.

I’m referring to this

CoreELEC outputs a standard video signal resolution, further processing is handled by your display. Check the settings on your TV or projector carefully—look for options like 4:3, 16:9, “as is,” or “stretch.”

Thanks mate, it was my TV’s settings, they were set to 16:Thanks, friend. It was my TV’s settings; it was set to 16:9 instead of the original, and the scan was on instead of automatic. That’s what got fixed.

It now works with FW 2.20 as well: “When you click ‘Suspend’, the box switches to standby mode and the USB ports are switched off”.
“The same: setting>system>power saving>shoutdown funktion>suspend”.
But the USB ports remain switched on even when the device is switched off (shut down); I wonder why the CE team can’t resolve this issue together with the Ugoos team ?.

Why is this so critical? They draw milliamps???

Many User leave the Box on all the time, never suspend, shutdown.

What happens in Android, if you go to Developer Options, under USB Protocol ,change from Charging, to media transfer protocol.

Nothing , the USB ports remain switched on
