Nightly builds (NEW)

Anyone know what is fsblockdev and how to remove it?
When using openwizard to backup ce(i prefer it to ce backup as it backup everything), it gets stuck on fsblockdev and the size increases exponentially.

You need to be more specific.

Iā€™m away on holiday so canā€™t get logs, but you can simulate by using openwizard or ez+ maintenance to do full backup on 21.1.1, it gets to final bit & fsblockdev then get stuck for ages and the size is like 5gb+ and rising until i stop kodi.

Tomorrow nightly 20241017 will have a new, experimental dynamic video/audio buffer handling.

This new kind of buffer handling will hopefully solve issues about not balanced number of video/audio packages in some streams.

Mostly streams with Dolby Vision FEL and TrueHD show such behaviour.

Also media with high bitrate should play more smooth now.

Cool, will test. Which settings do you recommend?

I updated to CoreELEC-Amlogic-ng.arm-21.1.1-Omega_nightly_20241017-Generic.img.gz without changing any settings.

The video issues i experienced before are now gone:
-stutter after starting a video, which could only be solved by using the seek function ā†’ fixed
-audio-video sync issues that randomly occured, which could only be solved by using the seek function ā†’ fixed

Does the new buffer handling also work if you disable caching and only use Kodiā€™s default 8-second buffer or do we need to configure caching in the Services menu as well?

The 8s are gone a long time already in CE. Itā€™s a long time right now itā€™s data size based.

There is nothing for users to adjust as it only can get worse. Every media on every source can not be covered by one setting only.

Just see and watch with ctrl-shift-o the live values on different sources and different kind of media.

Like a sample do need 500kb for 8s while other samples do need 200MB for 4s. Itā€™s ridiculous to think this can be handled by user setting.
Especially audio and video buffer must be adjusted differently to match fill levels as Kodi uses these values because it doesnā€™t care about time or data size, it care only about the % buffer level.

The second point (audio-video sync issues that randomly occured), are still occuring, but the frequency of occurence is much reduced.

2 posts were merged into an existing topic: Amlogic-no Discussion

21.1.1-Omega_nightly_20241025 (Amlogic-ng.arm)

Canā€™t seek if previously paused and resumed a file during playback.

The seek bar at the top just stays there and nothing happens. When then trying to stop the file, the video seems to just play in fast-forward / skipping frames for a long time with the audio still playing. Eventually the video then stops. Log showing this: https://paste.coreelec.org/PermitTogether

Also seeing audio-sync errors of up to 350ms after seeking in a file. The error before the seek was significantly less.

For the CE devs, what would you require to look at the audio-sync problems (both after seeking and on initial start of a file)?

I understand you have previously closed issues on this topic as you have been unable to replicate them.

I have audio-sync issues by playing any file I have tried - audio consistently appears to be late with delays anywhere up-to about 350ms. Using the Spears test pattern, I can measure the audio sync with the white-flash for an objective value.

If I provide more logs with this issue would it be investigated by the CE team? Or is the decision still audio-sync issues will not be addressed at this time?

Try today nightly again.

To replicate and to solve the audio sync issue: pack all together, CE device, TV and all cables into a package and send to us

We canā€™t replicate and so there is nothing we can do.

edit: deleted content of this post as it was flagged as ā€œinappropriateā€.

For reference for others, I simply made a joke about sending a TV to the CE team and then asked if the CE team had previously looked at the issue and could provide any pointers for others to start working from.

Not sure why the last post by @doppingkoala was flagged, I didnā€™t find the tone offensive.

Anyway, while Iā€™m unable to send my setup somewhere Iā€™d be happy to either show someone in person (southern Germany) or via video-call (plus ssh access to the box etc.). Not sure if thats feasible but IMO the second-best and more realistic option

Edit: also @doppingkoala, how did you get the Spears and Munsil disk to play? I have the 2019 version as a bdmv/m2ts but the menus are very much non-responsive so I canā€™t really use it.

Not using the full disc with menus. I have the samples from the disc as standalone files

You are more than welcome to help out with the bugs. We donā€™t need the jokes part and the atmosphere that settled in with all the changes DV support brought. We were open about needing more knowledgeable people on our side. We asked some people but they donā€™t have the time.
I repeat, we need help but not on chaising a magic unicorn. The daily work is not as ā€œglamorousā€ but has to be done so people can then add 100 lines to the player process info so they can cover their screen while watching a movie.
So help us out whenever you can, please.

Second try thenā€¦

Would you mind sharing what setup you guys have tested this on that donā€™t have sync issues? That information would be helpful for others who have the problem that clearly does exist for many others.

While you have clearly decided to not look at this problem any more, has it been investigated at all in the past?

Do you have any suggestions or suspicions about where in the code the problem may lie? Kodi? amlogic linux?, ā€¦

Any input that may be helpful for others to start looking at this issue from?

ItĀ“s an old story.
It startet with openELEC, continued with libreELEC and now CE

There are so much different combinations of hardware like tv avr mediabox etc. and a lot of media files with various encodings.
The same story:
Users like You are reporting sync issues, but none of the developers can reproduce ist.
Butā€¦
The developers are non commercial and sacrifice their free time

In my case, I also had sync issues with some video/media files, some files were badly or incorrectly encoded, corrupt file header.

You want it 100% perfect ?
In this case You are at the wrong place with CE.
You can buy a Panasonic DP-UB 9004 using original UHD Bluray, no ISO, no scene realease, if there is any issue You can contact professional support.

What should I do to get the new Nightly versions from CoreELEC Configuration Addon ā†’ Updates ?

Why? If you are on a nightly build and have auto updates enabled, CE will automatically download the update when it becomes available.
