Kinhank G1

I have tried to get smb working but it was always throwing the invalid argument error so I gave up and used the UPnP Kodi share from my PC and that works fine.

Also, I did have issues with WiFi playback when I used the latest nightly.

That is weird. I thought the dovi.ko file is the same for all S905X4 boxes regardless of the brand or the chip revision etc. Is that not the case?

Here is:

Ok
Thx for suggestions

I wrote this box off long ago
Once update was forced…

I liked the challenge of trying to downgrade bootloader with testpoint/u-art .

Iam not going to put much more effort into this box.(maybe on the weekend again) lol

Iam wondering if i need bootloader from original firmware from my V2 board

To revive i used bootloader from hungphutho
Which is V3 board…

I have two boxes, #

  • old version is with GB LAN, Serial starts with 24200xxx.
  • the new one without GB LAN chip has SN beginning with 24600xxx.

Different dtbs needed, othervise all the same (ATV image, dovi.do, remote config file…)

When you say dtb is working, does that mean all the connectivity such as WiFi, BT, and Ethernet are working fine? If so, then the issue with dovi.ko might not have anything to do with the bootloader image I guess?

I’ve asked hdmkv over at Kodi official forums to include the Kinhank G1 as part of the boxes that run KODI

I basically made an outline of everyone who helped get the KinHank G1 working

I thought to share here in case anyone new wanted to quickly have a rundown of what to do if they buy a Kinhank G1

Thanks to Sholander , tasmansaroha

and special thanks to hungphutho

great work guys :slightly_smiling_face:

EDIR, made a start guide here

It’s the WiFi, my advice return if its 100m version, don’t know about 1gb version but on this have to Reboot several times to get WiFi working, & playing high bitrate remux(use oppenheimer dv version as test) is almost impossible as wifi fluctuates & 100m is not gonna cut it.

Has anyone used a pair of BT headphones/earbuds with this box on CE? From my testing, regardless of the source audio format(DD, THD, DTS), the BT audio seems to be pretty low in both volume and quality. Increasing the volume through Volume amplification is just distorting the output. I haven’t tested on Android yet.

It would be great if anyone can test this on their box.

To circumvent this issue, I tried to connect my BT headphones directly with my TV but there is another longstanding issue on that front again.

I’ve created another topic for that and I would appreciate if anyone can help me with that one over there: Dolby Vision out of sync through HDMI with Bluetooth audio connected to LG OLED TV

With 1Gbit Ethernet, it’s pretty stable even for FF & RW of high bitrate DV. WiFi is sort of a hit or miss, sometimes unusable with FF & RW.

For the boxes with 100M Ethernet, USB playback is the only stable option I guess.

No, it’s one of the options; the other, and better, option is an “USB3.0 to Ethernet” adapter. With an adequate adapter transfer speeds rise to 250-300 Mbit/s which is more than enough

Thanks, it works and the wifi doesn’t crash. So it’s not a hardware issue that causes the wifi crash with NG build. It would be nice if it works on NG build, because P7 FEL only works on that.

Right, that makes sense. Good to know for people with the 100M box. @xmlcom

Use WiFi due to my setup, do you or anyone with 1gb version able to get constant WiFi connection & play high bitrate via WiFi without issues. If not I’ll send mine back & not bother trying to get 1gb version and probably get am6b+ to compliment my minix.

Yes, although my 1GB ethernet works OK, I use WiFi due to safety reasons, connected to my Router’s “Guest WiFi” which is completely isolated from the rest of my home network. It never looses connection with fixed IP settings and disabled IPv6…

I can use WiFi for playback but it’s not completely without issues. Especially with high bitrate DV playback, sometimes the screen goes black whenever I FF or RW to a much longer position and sometimes it does come back and sometimes it just gets stuck. It’s very unpredictable and I’m not sure why.

So if you can’t go with either direct USB playback or use a USB to Ethernet adapter like @Sholander has mentioned, you can return it and get another box like AM6B+.

Since we are limited and won’t be utilising the adapter to it’s full potential, I would recommend buying from AliExpress (No I’m not being paid, I just like buying things cheap). That Ugreen adapter is basically a branded adapter, I’ve checked Ali and can source the most popular one that has 10k+ sold adapters with 4.9 rating for $3.79 (pre tax).
This is a choice item, you buy 3 items that have these choice discounts and you get free shipping. You could buy the uart cable for $1.39 and then buy another item that you might need. and you will be paying less than half than the adapter you listed.
Shipping for choice items is around 6 days. free returns within 14 days.

If you get the adapter and it doesn’t give you your speed , just return it. In some sales the G1 could be bought for like $40, then spending $15 just to get 1Gigabit ethernet seems allot

It was just an example that was first at hand, did not suggest to buy it; certainly there are much cheaper ones that do the same work. The only thing is to pay attention to is that it’s USB 3.0 one!

Hello!
Unfortunately, practice shows otherwise.
The G1 only has a USB 2.0 port and the adapter is not capable of 1Gbit speed when connected to it.
I just tested it and measured 94Mbps under ATV and 91Mbps under CoreElec.
This is 960Mbps with a PC (USB3), and 336Mbps on my TV measured on a USB3 port.
So it’s not worth buying such an adapter for it!
